The overlooked detail about the most recent cover of the magazine at the center of the Paris attack

One of the little-discussed details in the wake of the terrorist attack on the Paris offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo centers on a book featured on the front cover of its current edition.

The book, which has reportedly caused controversy in the days leading up to its publication over perceived "Islamophobia," imagines the future election of a Muslim leader of France, which heralds a broader Islamization of the EU.

Its title is "Soumission" or "Submission" in English ("submission" being the literal definition of the Arabic word "Islam"), the newest work of celebrated and controversial French author Michel Houellebecq.

"Soumission" was released in bookstores today, January 7, with one Bloomberg writer already questioning whether the attacks on Charlie Hebdo are linked to the book's publication.

The Paris Review describes the novel as follows:

In the “History Repeats Itself” department, the gooners will be watching Paris’ response to this, and if the government does nothing, like I believe it will, ISIS will start moving on their political parties and infrastructure. This attack is just a probe of the Frenchie’s weak resolve that hitler’s boys found before.

Sorry, but when the well-armed ISIS fighters begin picking off the weakest European countries, we shouldn’t pick up the red phone.

This is censorship that goes WAY beyond merely cutting out passages or the burning of books. It is attacking and killing the authors of the “unpopular” point of view.

Suppression and intimidation work, every time they are tried. At least on the short term. Adolf Hitler and the Nationalist Socialists of Germany did very well for a few years. The Islamofascists are succeeding in their version of “Kristallnacht” on the French.

Are the French going to put up with this?

I could easily see the Muzzies taking over France and destroying all of the “inappropriate” paintings hanging in the Louvre. It’s getting danged scary out there.

Oh yes, Vichy France. I see it. Right beside Vichy Germany with Merkel defending Islam this week, and below Vichy England where the tea drinking surrender monkeys live. And look below it, there is Vichy Spain that withdrew from the middle east immediately when their trains were bombed. And look to the right, there’s the Vichy Vatican where the papacy keeps telling us islam is to be respected.

That’s the same thing that was said when the Krauts rolled into Paris.

And all the WWII memorials … can't have monuments to infidels in Islamic lands.

France has nukes.

One day, the USA will be hit with nukes from, from France, by an Islamist dictator.

Twenty years from now, if your not wearing a burqa, you won't be welcome in paris

NATO and EU Central Bank are the two things enabling present European sclerosis. Euroland is destined for some hard times and reorganization - its only a question of when and how they choose to deal with it. The USA should force them to look at their whole security (both internal and external) but dissolving NATO.

Whereas I see the reasoning behind your comments, I firmly believe that this will never happen. I'm not delusional, but I believe that we are already seeing a tide of nationalism rising in Europe, and this may lead to significant push-back. The problem is that Fascism also rose from this type of nationalism, and Putin has tapped nationalistic Russian pride to get support in trying to promote a militaristic resurgence of Russia, if not a USSR-type equivalent. Yes, he was derailed to some extent by the drop in oil prices, but this doesn't change the intent. Anyway, I hope you're wrong, and I'm sure you do too.

“Suppression and intimidation work, every time they are tried.”

Lots of that going around!

“But now Chief Cochran’s storied career is up in smoke – all because of a book he wrote for a men’s Bible study group at his Baptist church.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced Tuesday that Cochran had been fired. The announcement came on the same day Cochran was supposed to return to work following a 30-day suspension. “
