Protesting Law and Order

I worry that too many Americans fail to respect the police who put their lives on the line to protect them. They are not the enemy. The criminals are.

I doubt there was ever a time in America, pre-Revolution and since, that race was not an issue. It was for the framers of the Constitution who, in order to get the southern colonies to accept it, included in Article Two that, for the purpose of taxation, slaves were to be identified as only “three-fifths” of being a person. In Section 9, it was agreed that the issue of slavery was not to be addressed until 1808, but “a tax or duty may be imposed on such importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each person.”

Protesting something, anything, is as American as the flag. After fighting a Revolution for six years to rid themselves of a British monarch and his control of the colonies, Americans embraced the right to protest as part of their definition of liberty and freedom. By 1861 the protests against slavery had so divided the nation a Civil War had to be fought. In 1870, the 15th Amendment enfranchised former slaves with the right to vote, but Congress would wait until 1920 to extend the same right to women!

Having lived through the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, the assassinations of President Kennedy, his brother Robert who was the Attorney General, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I concluded that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 had “solved” the issues that had afflicted blacks in America. I was wrong.

The problem is with training and the command staff. Why, for example, does it take a supervisor to come over before someone stopped at a check point can go on their way after refusing to answer any questions. The officers are poorly trained.

It would be wise to start a Story with TRUTH,

The Police Have NO Legal Duty whatsoever to Protect the Citizens,:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia

for the record when they were “Peace Officers” up until the early to mid 70’s the vast majority of the USA did have respect for them. Then they slowly transformed into “Law Enforcement” Officers, which is nothing more than a euphemism for the SS or Gestapo under Hitler’s Germany.

Respect must be Earned, never Granted.

Of course you are wrong. America still has democrats in political power. If racism or democrats ever went the way of the wagon wheel, so would the other.

You’ll notice that the police who have been most successful at building trust and respect in their communities are the ones who have been honest about their abilities.

The Detroit police chief says openly that they can only prevent a tiny fraction of crimes because criminals avoid committing crimes right in front of police. He has been outspoken in favor of people arming themselves because they are the most effective crime prevention too there is.

The police are MORE dangerous that criminals because the cops ALWAYS get away with it.

I’ve never had a cop help me when I was a victim.

I’ve always experienced cops jacking up me and others for attempting to legally go about our days.

I refuse to accept that cops are net helpful. That is not my experience.

Two years later, there has been no public conclusion to this case, which appears to be a back-shooting of a crazy guy by a cop who couldn’t control her temper:

When the panhandler Cesar Beltran was shot by Tacoma Police Officer Michel Volk, eyewitnesses said:

“Then all of a sudden, (the officer) yelled something and she tried Tasing him, but missed. When the guy started to run away, (the officer) immediately threw the Taser down, pulled her gun out and shot.” The man seemed to be running in slow motion — possibly drunkenly — as he attempted to flee, Graham said. That’s when the officer fired four shots, several of which appeared to hit the man, she added, “I didn’t see anything in his hands,” Graham added. “I didn’t see him do anything physical or threatening. I’ve just never seen anything like that before in my life — a person just getting shot like that. It was just heartbreaking.” (1)

“Folks we watched this while waiting in the turn lane. From what I viewed the slow moving but irritated homeless man was absolutely murdered. I could have restrained him with one arm. To be watching something that seemed sorta funny be turned into a shooting......I am not comfortable as a tax paying and law abiding citizen in Tacoma anymore. Maybe time to relocate our business as this type of event is now all too common in Tacoma.” (2)

Have these eyewitness accounts been investigated and verified or debunked? Has officer Volk been exonerated or fired? Was Beltran shot in his front or his back? The Tacoma News Tribune has not reported the results of any internal investigation. In light of police shooting issues in the TNT and around the country, I look forward a full public disclosure of the results of this case.

I know, it is pretty sad to see the 90% make the 10% look bad though. But therein lies the problem.

Wha...? Silly me, I thought it had something to do with the slave states saying "S***w you, I'm taking my ball and going home" after they didn't like the result of the 1860 election.

Most Americans don't have any real experience with police putting their lives on the line to protect them. They have a lot more experience with police engaged in literal highway robbery (e.g. handing out tickets for exceeding artificially low speed limits) or (as in the Garner case) sticking their noses into capitalist acts between consenting adults.

So America’s police officers are no different than the Gestapo? Oh, good grief!! Exaggerate much?
