Oh, those dastardly illegals. They come into our country, they live off our social safety net, they take our jobs, and they cause all kinds of grief.
That's a fair description of many conversations in recent months regarding illegal immigrants. The message is clear: “It is unethical to take and take when you haven't earned the right.”
That gets us to the Freep-a-thon. Statistics found easily on the internet prove that only 5% of Freepers support the other 95%. Count the number of unique hits Free Republic receives. Count the number of actual donors...and voila...you will discover that only 5% are supporting Free Republic.
You'd think 95% of Freepers would be defending the right of illegals to take and take and take and take — and never give.
After all, they could be charged with the same thing.
Make no mistake, it is understood that there are those just recovering from tragedy, unemployment, a family crisis, the loss of income, and other problems that DO crop up in life from time to time. But NOT 95% of Freepers. It would be hard to argue such a thing.
It would be easy, on the other hand, to argue that Free Republic offers a real voice to the average conservative. It has the best cyber-conversation software anyplace. It is a conservative forum that does not apologize for being conservative. We aren't beset with ANY ads, memory devouring pop-ups or auto-runs because we're self funded. We aren't continually harassed by liberal trolls on someone’s payroll to disrupt conservative conversations. We are able to talk about God, family, wholesome morality, natural marriage, natural sexuality, and truthful politicians without being assaulted by mindless, liberal moderators taking away our ability to even be present.
You have a voice at Free Republic.
My only question: “Do you have a twinge of guilt over being compared to an illegal?”
If so, then donate today to the Freep-a-thon. Put us over the top this Thanksgiving week! Donate what you can: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500. Just about everybody can afford something.

He’s advanced 2-1/2 grades since August, when he started using Khan Academy. Now he’s also studying programming.
He’s an excellent teacher. Too many parents think, though, that if they say, “Sit down and listen to this video.” that that’s all it takes. The kids also have to think with him throughout what he’s saying and do what he’s showing them how to do.
It’s like the parents who hear that kids with books in the house read better than those who don’t. What it means is that the parents value reading and do it in front of the kids. Any dimrod can buy a book and put it on a shelf. That wasn’t the point.
You been around here so long, shouldn’t they be promoting you to great uncle or something? :>)
Wow, do you know how to guilt-trip or WHAT?!?! lol.
After many years of sporadic donations, I’m now a monthly donor. It’s not a “huge” amount but I did what I could manage. God bless this nation and God bless Jim Robinson.
Good points. Not every child learns best from video instruction, but this one does. The Khan program is perfect for him.
After about 20 years of lurking, and realizing FR was my #1 site, I was really convicted that I was a free-loader and guilty of criticizing those who free load on gov......and became a monthly donor.
I’d encourage the 95% of you who lurk and find this site valuable to do the same........amazing what a small monthly contribution would do for the best site for conservatives on the Web........
ok, I was overdue.
Done.
Now he’s having a tantrum because I told him he’s had enough Recreational Math for today.
Why did Drudge drop Free Republic?
I’m far from rich, and I donate every time. I’ve already donated this go-round, but I’ll donate again, so it might help a bit to end this freep-a-thon. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
You are the man!
(Are you really grumpy?)
Let’s get it done by end of Thanksgiving...at least by end of Thanksgiving weekend.
Those who haven’t given, who use Free Republic regularly, should search their conscience about donating to something they obviously value. Free Republic depends on individual donors because it is trying to stay independent so it can stay FREE from manipulation.
If anyone reading this hasn’t given, then please give. The voice you save might just be the only voice you have.
Drudge dropped FR about 20 years ago. I first learned about FR from a Drudge link and I’ve been around here a LONG time.
Had to do with a slew negative Drudge posts and a few posters (for real or trolls, who knows?) who bashed Drudge every chance they got.
So you agree that manipulation can be effective?
I don’t get your point and I’m not interested in having an argument about personal preference.
I frequent plenty of conservative sites that have advertising and it doesn’t bother me and it doesn’t manipulate me. If you don’t like it, you can limit your viewing to places like FR.
you’re nuttier than a fruitcake!!
I don’t care what or where you visit. That isn’t the point. I thought we were talking about why free republic doesn’t use advertising. But, I admit, that could have just been in my own head. I’m guilty of assuming things pretty regularly.
We had a German foreign exchange student my senior year in high school....way back in the dark ages before the invention of inventing.
He considered being called “nuttier than a fruitcake” the absolute worst thing you could say about anyone. It was a major epithet in his mind. Became royally incensed over it once.
I never did figure out how it must have translated into German. Nussig wie ein fructkuchen???
