Buffalo, NY A high profile case of Buffalo police killing a mans dog while looking for non-existent drugs, has led to a Freedom of Information request revealing some sadistic figures.
On June 3, 2013 Buffalo police raided a mans home to look for crack cocaine. He was not there, nor was the crack.
The home belonged to Iraqi war veteran, Adam Arroyo and his 2-year-old pit bull Cindy.
Upon breaking down the door to Arroyos home, officers encountered Cindy, who was barely 50 pounds, and shot and killed her. They were at the wrong apartment.
According to use of force reports requested by WGRZ-TV under the Freedom of Information Law, Buffalo Police shot 92 dogs from Jan. 1, 2011 through Sept. 2014. Seventy-three of those dogs died. Nineteen survived.
To provide a comparison, Buffalos numbers more than triple the amount of dog shooting incidents involving police in Cincinnati, a municipality of similar size.
The numbers are what the numbers are, Buffalo Police Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards said in an interview with WGRZ. Certainly, no officer takes any satisfaction in having to dispatch a dog.
Perhaps an even more disturbing reality is that nearly 30 percent of these dog shootings in Buffalo were carried out by one man. The unidentified officer has shot 26 dogs, killing 25 of them, in just the last three years.

Many that have a problem with DOG KILLING...
have no problem with the murder of babies..
OR not enough of a problem to generate outrage..
could be a spiritual thing.. or some kind of autism..
They relate to dogs BUT NOT babies..
My five dogs are either in the house or my fenced yard. Why is shooting the pit okay but not the other four?
Is it because he is a hazard in your line of work since he will bite a thief or burglar?
So that hotheads won’t harm him or his family when more appropriate and legal action should be applied.
And I’ll bet that if I put a bullet proof vest on my dog, I would be prosecuted for “Potentially Subverting Police Self Protection”, or some such nonsense.
I wonder if I should have it say DOG, in big white letters?
Maybe I can't. But I'd still like to see your question if that's okay because maybe I'll learn something from it.
I had not considered harming him or his family.
I thought maybe I’d just shoot his dog...
Luv doggies...
Read Megan you are only five years old. No offense ... just the truth. I don’t have the whole truth but I have most of the truth ... as does Free Republic. We don’t have to talk about it .... It would not be polite to disrespect you. I have no need to kick you around! We (Americans) have to fight to be Free!
Not only are the police not trained to deal with dogs, the departments don't really care how many dogs they shoot. As amply evidenced by Chief Richards' idiot remarks.
Hell's Bells, they smash down doors for piddly shit warrants and anonymous tips, hit the wrong houses, destroy property shoot and injure non combative (& sometimes innocent) civilians. Why should they care about dogs?
Before anyone goes on about the relative value of a dog's life to a human's, they should consider that the dog issue is representative of a MUCH larger mind set and actions by police.
62% of warrants are for drugs? WTH? There's no real crime out there?
hold your fire FRiend, please!
That would be cool. Maybe we should make some ballistic dog-vests made up and market them.
I WAS joking.
The way to solve this problem is to cheat.
The dog killing officer hides behind his anonymity. However, other officers have likely done reprehensible things as well, and their names are most likely out there.
So pick a bad officer, one who has abused people and gotten away with it, and put out that *he* is the dog killer. Dog lovers from around the world will turn on him, and make his life a burden and a misery. Were he a normal officer, this would be unfair and bad. But he is already a bad officer, so deserves little sympathy.
Yet he and his department will see the strength of the dog lovers, and their denials that he is the dog killer will be worthless. His career will likely be over.
However, things will not be all well and good for the real dog killer. Because of him, another officer, albeit a bad one, will be ruined. This will not ingratiate him to the other police, in fact, it could hit him hard.
And none of them are going to appreciate, or tolerate, his killing any more dogs.
So the bottom line will be that one, perhaps two bad police officers will lose their jobs, and the police officers in that department are going to think twice before casually committing puppycide again.
Thank You!
Dumb cops, dumb cops ... whatcha gonna do,
Whatcha gonna do with a low IQ...
I have two big dogs, one 85 lb. and the other, 110 lb. Neither has ever threatened any delivery person or trades person who’s come by. They do bark when people come by; that’s just being dogs.
Even though the cops are usually in the right in many minority community confrontations, it looks like there are excessive dog shootings in many places. Seems to me a good start on better minority community relations would be for cops to be required to use less lethal methods of canine control.
“Certainly, no officer takes any satisfaction in having to dispatch a dog.
