Mitch McConnell responds to Alison Lundergan Grimes’ gun ad in devastating fashion
Washington Post Blog ^ | September 16, 2014 | Philip Bump

Posted on 09/16/2014 8:33:38 PM PDT by Republican Wildcat

Grimes consistently trails in the polling, in part because McConnell has effectively made the race about Obama. Grimes campaign manager Jonathan Hurst offered the Post a statement that addressed that, in part. "In a sign of weakness, Mitch McConnell’s campaign scurried to respond directly to our latest strong ad underscoring just how worried Mitch McConnell is seven weeks from Election Day," Hurst said. So,y eah, on the surface, this is a race about guns and gun use. But it's really about whether or not Grimes is an Obama clone, thanks to McConnell's very effective framing. Meaning that by releasing her gun ad, Grimes basically walked right into McConnell's strategy.

That GIF up there is what it looks like when a trap is sprung.

McConnell for all his faults knows how to run a campaign. Hes the only Repub who has pulled away in what was a tie.

Meanwhile a guy like Tillis has actually lost ground to the Obama clone Hagan in NC. When she was considered the #1 walking dead Dem earlier this summer.

Mitch must have been misled into thinking she was a Tea Party-er.

How Hagen has captured the lead is beyond me. She’s been pathetic for almost 6 years. Why do they expect anything differently?

Hagen is spending like crazy. I see her ads everywhere. And it’s positive campaigning for the most part, with her name all over it.

Tillis ain’t doing squat so far from what I’ve seen.

He may have waited too late. And if he cannot beat Hagen, he’s a weak candidate.

Elections are usually won by pros. Why, because they are good at what they do, just like any other endeavor. For as long as I can remember, the amateur candidate usually gets their head kicked in on election day. We need candidates who are both good on the issues, and good politicians. Neglect any one of those factors, especially the good politician part, and we end up nominating losers. Just like sports, no MLB team is going to bring someone from the stands in to pitch or play shortstop. We as hopefully mature adults should stop getting all excited about amateur hour candidates. We need conservative candidates who know how to play the game.

From looking at polls Hagan has been successful with the war on women crap again. She’s running against Tillis for his votes to cut education (a women issue) and contraception etc. Meanwhile she has zero care hung around her neck and Tillis is being hurt for state house votes. She leads big on gender gap. She’s up like 15-20 w women. Hes only up 7-10 with men. Unreal. The good sign is Hagan cant get above 50. She’s stuck in mid 40s. Tillis in low 40s. The libertarian is also hurting Tillis. Leaving Hagan with a 3-4 point lead but only 45% support.

I worry that such a campaign would have failed 20 or even ten years ago because North Carolinians wouldn’t fall for that leftist touchy-feely crap, but I guess the New YAWKers and other Yankee immigrants has finally taken its toll.

Would Southern Belles fall for the war on women lie? NO! Yankees would, however...

Is NC no longer red? Are the purple? Will they, like Virginia, become blue?

True. But that's not the question before Kentucky voters. That question is, which one of the two sad sacks should pound sand in the United States Senate? "Neither" is not a valid answer. It's a two-party election.

If the election goes badly, the person will be Alison "Half His Age" Grimes. And Dingy Harry will still be Majority Leader.

If the election goes well, the person will be Mitch, sidelined from the Majority Leader position by the new, conservative GOP caucus. Maybe he'll quit out of depression, making way for a conservative replacement.

If the election is a squeaker, Mitch will likely be the new Majority Leader. But that's still way better than the worst-case scenario (Dingy Harry is still Majority Leader). Those who don't think so don't understand how legislative bodies operate.

Of course, it's also possible the GOP could retake the Senate without Mitch. But that's counting the chickens before they hatch. At best, a questionable strategy. And Bitch Grimes would still be a reliable Donk vote, one more thorn in the side of the GOP-controlled Senate!

Although I would have no problem with the content of this post had it come from an independent source, I have now seen several like it that were originally posted to the blog pages of major newspapers. Yet they are represented here as if the source were representing the papers themselves. Such constitutes disinformation unworthy of FreeRepublic. Yes, it is usual for the Democrats to be so dishonest, but such practices do incalculable damage to people who portray themselves as an alternative.

This has to stop. If there is a way to tag blog posts as such automatically, that would help.
