In what may be the ultimate Nanny State move, Vermont has outlawed consuming or bringing brownies, cakes, or cookies to school. The mandates are part of a new program titled Smart-Snacks-in-Schools and will apply to lunch items, vending machines, and fundraising events between midnight and half and hour after school.

Nanny State making kids miserable PING!
Let them put their money where their mouths are.
Will they ban these items from concessions at all school activities?
Don’t hold your breath
If I had kids in a Vermont school I would force the issue by packing contraband in my child’s lunch every day.
Under what authority? I think maybe it’s time some parents make it clear that the school board works for them, not vice versa.
Government (public) schools are child abuse.
By the end of the first week you would be locked up & your kids in Child Protective Services because of your "child endangerment"!
I’m amazed at how many Americans still send their kids mindlessly to public school. It’s like getting all your medical treatment at the VA.
socialists run Vermont
Pretty soon, they will frisk your kids for goodies.
The Conservatives are a bunch of stuffy old timers who want us to live in 1924!
Democrats are the Party of "Yes!" If it Feels good. DO IT!
The Dems are the party of choice, they choose what is best for you!
So why don’t they ban Ben and Jerry’s? Not like ice cream is leading the ‘war on obesity’.
Hope some wise child starts a black market business.
And does the same plan apply to those morbidly obese teachers and administrators I see in the news all the time? Bet not!
I attended elementary school during the Carter years. We had cake, a cookie, or some nasty jello concoction served with our lunches each day. I drank my milk if it weren’t spoiled, and I ate my cake or cookie. Sometimes the cake was so dried out from being cut hours before that I wouldn’t eat it. The jello was usually hard. Ugh. I refused to eat anything else on my lunch tray including the homemade yeast rolls. I was a very hungry child by 2:00 every afternoon. We were not allowed to have parties at school except for the day before Christmas holidays. That was it. No birthday parties at school. No Halloween fun. If we wanted a party, we invited our school friends and had it on our own time. We were not allowed to bring Coke to school. (Or other soda)
I have an assigned day for providing a snack for the class of one of my children. I have an assigned time for providing snacks for multiple ball teams. Why can’t parents buy their own snacks after games? Lol.
Dam, that's good. We gotta get that on a tee shirt.
Hope some wise child starts a black market business.
I would do the same. AND I would show up to have lunch with my child as much as possible and bring our lunches from a local fast food place. I’d like to see the school try to take my lunch from me.
If only more parents would stand up to the schools and tell them off....
It’s not just the crappy weather that keeps me from ever wanting to move to that state.
Do the lunch police check the teacher’s lunches too?
