Woodruff High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina confiscated American flags from the vehicles of four students this past week.
The schools principal, Aaron Fulmer, explained that professions of patriotism do not write a blank check for egregious behavior. Many of our undocumented students may feel intimidated by such flagrant demonstrations. And as President Obama has pointed out, the American flag, like the Confederate flag, is seen as a symbol of oppression in many parts of the world.
Flaunting so-called American exceptionalism also contradicts the lesson of humility our school is trying to inculcate, Fulmer said. The United States is just one country out of hundreds. It is inappropriate for students to be acting like America is special and somehow better than anywhere else.
Fulmer was less certain about the possibility of confiscating other flags that have been brandished around the country. A Mexican flag may be a reassuring symbol of a far away home that an immigrant misses, Fulmer speculated. Who are we to take that away from them?
As for confiscating the ISIS flags that have popped up elsewhere, Fulmer admitted that that would be difficult. I wouldnt know the flag if I saw it. And I wouldnt want to risk angering some very dangerous people.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -
Around 4,000 people attended the sixth annual Upstate Pride March and Festival Saturday in downtown Spartanburg.
More people are being supportive, which I think will in turn help open up the way to getting equality in this area, said gay rights supporter Carrie Weimer.
For the last five years, members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community have been able to celebrate who they are as individuals during the day-long event.
Organizers say the city has always welcomed Upstate Pride SC and this year, the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce agreed to fly the group's rainbow-colored flag at their headquarters over the weekend.
It was really special for us, because it is just another notch to say the city supports us in a different way than they have in the past, said Upstate Pride SC President Keith Keppley.
Keppley says fewer protestors showed up to Saturday's festivities, but the battle to gain equal rights wages on.
The laws in this state make us second-class citizens, said Ann Willabrand with S.C. Equality.
He got me...again.
You get me every time. Arghhhhh....
The schools principal, Aaron Fulmer needs to be ran out of town on a rail along with the school board who gave him his position. Enough is enough. Colleges and Universities are turning out Marxist Fools and now educators are trying to do same in secondary schools.
FReegards!
I almost got through the entire first paragraph this time. Good job.
First they ban the Stars and Bars—then they ban Old Glory—soon the only flag that will fly is the Gay Rainbow Flag and the blue UN Flag. How much you want to bet the person in charge is an Obama Liberal—He would be happy to fly the Obama face flag over his school. Maybe its time to fly the Bonny Blue Flag!
Have they handed out black ISIS flags yet?
South Carolina began this effort by banning the display of the Confederate Battle Flag with the help of liberal lawyers and the NAACP. They were successful and now they are turning on the US flag. They won’t stop there IMO. They won’t be satisfied until whitey is in concentration camps.
I couldn’t disagree more. Satire by definition uses exaggeration and/or ridicule to make a statement about the current state of affairs. When a satire is modeled after a news article and it’s impossible to tell the difference between it and genuine concurrent news stories without a “satire” label posted on it then it has no value as satire and is simply a source of potential misinformation. Political satire ought to show us the final destination of the journey our leaders are taking us on, not just try to make us believe that the ‘train’ is a couple minutes ahead of schedule. Great satire remains relevant; it outlives its own day and sometimes even outlives the civilization that gave it life.
Satire or no satire, this is their ultimate goal.
Had me going for about 30 seconds.
