Poll: Republicans preferred to keep America prosperous (49%-40%)

Earlier I posted about the new poll from Gallup where the Republicans wallop the Democrats when it comes to keeping America safe.

Buried in that poll was this other nugget: “Looking ahead for the next few years, which political party do you think will keep the country prosperous."

Results: Republicans 49%, Democrats 40%.

And how will this impact the mid terms, exactly?

Well, it "does not bode well for Democratic chances," says Gallup.

While these measures are by no means perfect predictors of how well a party will do in a midterm election year, the Republican Party's strength this year does not bode well for Democratic chances to outperform already low expectations.

Gallup has a long trend on the "prosperous" question, and the chart shows the two parties' standings on this dimension in September before each of last five midterm elections, along with the outcome of the House vote in the corresponding year.

And be sure to check out this image. Basically, each time the President's party is in the deficit (1994, 2006, 2010), on the prosperity question, they get clobbered in the race for House seats.

There is a clear relationship between these perceptions and the outcome of midterm elections, with the president's party losing substantial seats when it has a deficit as the better party for economic prosperity, even though each election has its own unique dimensions. These results are thus best seen as providing an estimate of the direction of an election, rather than any precise outcome.

Although after the "shellacking" the Democrats took in 2010, along with the gerrymandering of districts/seats, there really isn't a lot of space to create any kind of substantial wave in the lower chamber.

But. When voters prefer your party to keep America both safe and prosperous, it should impact the Senate.

The 2012 election proves that identity politics now trumps EVERYTHING, including economic concerns. It would not matter to a big chunk of our population if the Dems stood for mass murder just as long as they were the right color, gender and orientation.

Some that are fed crumbs are beginning to figure this out. Thank Goodness. If democrats hold your hand and give you some goodies like food stamps, a zer0 phone and give you only words that more is coming like a free house, car and gasoline. You belong to them and eat crumbs. If one works and improves themselves they eat more than crumbs and are able to advance their lot in life. Support anything other than democRATs and America and the Poor Win the American Dream! Support democRATs and America and the Poor Lose. Put yourselves, democrat voters, in the know and never again be ‘low information’ and ‘low paid’! Advance, Be an American not a hyphenated American.
