It sounds like they "projected" the tax revenue based on what they needed to balance the budget. It would be interesting to find the tax revenue history. (I looked for a few minutes but could not find it) Was the 55 million projection realistic based on previous 4th quarter revenues?

$6.7 million for a city of 688,000? That’s $10 a head! My daughter’s Girl Scout troop made more than that on their last bake sale!

Imagine getting paid once a year. Now imagine you worked all year thinking you were making $55 an hour, but when you got your annual pay check it reflected $6.70 an hour.

Detroit once was the most prosperous city in America and the centerpiece of the USA’s industrial might. Now it’s an international embarrassment, thanks to decades of corrupt DemocRAT rule and union thuggery. It’s how Obama and his fellow travelers want to “transform” the entire country.

So Detroit’s property tax revenue came up short because nobody paid property taxes on abandoned properties. Imagine that.

Any municipality that only collects 15% or less of the taxes it is owed needs first to fire ALL of its tax collectors.
However, there are many third world countries that do a much better job of running their government than Detroit.
What! There are a few Republicans in Detroit that are still working and/or have money left over to pay their taxes and water bills.
This must stop! May I propose that democratic owners of Detroit property pay no taxes - nada deniro. Instead they should receive a subsidy from the surplus in the Detroit coffers for the upkeep and maintenance of their worthless properties. Republican owners, on the other hand, should have their taxes raised until they bleed red to redistribute the wealth and fund the surplus. It’s only fair. /s
