Current administration would rather squeeze U.S. citizens for more revenue
Just like the recent rise of business inversions moving business HQ abroad the United States has seen an uptick (up 221%) in Americans renouncing their citizenship. The elephant in the room in both these cases is taxes: both high taxes and burdensome tax compliance in foreign jurisdictions.
Instead of facing the problems directly, the Obama Administration has resorted to punitive measures. The shame and blame tactic of calling out businesses who wish to relocate as unpatriotic was undignified. Perhaps realizing that using the same strategy with individuals would be even less well received, they went the more quiet, direct route: yesterday, the State Department announced their interim final rule that raises the fee for renouncing citizenship from $450 to $2,350.
Their justification for raising the fee is that the time and labor be involved in the process; that is, the bureaucratic red tape that they created, and then decide to charge exhorbitant fees for:

Free to get in illegally, costly as a Communist/Nazi regime to leave it behind...
Remember when Romney was lambasted over his "businesses are people" comment?
If businesses aren't people, how can they be unpatriotic?
Dems want it both ways, as always.
The “IRON CURTAIN” - 0bama style.
I had a professional Cuban friend that managed to immigrate to the US in the early 60's.
He was allowed the clothes on his back. Everything else was confiscated.
He did sneak out a $50 bill folded up and tucked in his Zippo lighter.
Empty everything out. Do electronic transfers to whatever county you go to. When there, take the money out and open a new account to cut the electronic thread. Lots of things on the I’net about it ....
BFL
Not for less than $2350.
I bet Obama loved the Berlin Wall. He is recreating it, but with paper this time.
What happens if you just leave and dont pay it?
*********************************************
You leave and life goes on. The IRS will attempt to tax your income wherever you move to as you are still a US citizen so you will want your income to be hidden well, possibly into a family trust account. You want to find a country that allows you to become a citizen without revoking your current citizenship so you can get their passport. $2k isn’t a huge amount ,, if you’re collecting SS that’s 2 months.
Hell hole USA
Drones in the air space,
the NSA on your devices,
the Immigration guy said You are prisoners here,
Of your own misfortune”
And in the white hut,
They gathered for the dollar feast,
They garnered it with their butts
or they just use their domestic police.
Last thing I remember, I was running for the tarmac.
I had to find the plane to the place I wanated to be,
“Relax,” said the TSA man, “We are programmed to receive,
You can check out anytime you like... but you can never leave”
This is 0bama’s revenge against those sensible people who are getting the hell out of this once-great country. When a country changes so much that the intelligent, hard-working producers are getting the hell out, you know that the country has gone to hell.
This is just the beginning.
How DDR-ish.
Pretty soon we’ll have to escape in Hot Air balloons just like in the former East Germany.
If you refuse to pay, what are they gonna do? Drone yer butt?
Those caught trying to leave the country were often hanged, but many of the men (some men as young as 14 years old) were instead sentenced to a lifetime of slavery in the galley ships, since the State needed oarsmen for its navy.
The Protestant religion was outlawed, though it had been well established in France for 200 years, had once been the religion of one quarter of the French nobility, and had been the religion of the powerful Bourbon family.
Protestants were persecuted brutally.
One of the most brutal acts was the quartering of Dragoons (an army of thugs) in the homes of Protestants, where they were free to rob, rape, beat, destroy, or even kill with impunity. Though rape and murder were technically not allowed, the thugs in fact had a free reign. They routinely sold or destroy property, and had did whatever they wanted.
Many Protestents had no alternative but to escape.
The word refugee was originally applied to Protestants fleeing France.
Escape was very dangerous. It required stealth, money, maps, knowledge of safe-houses and who could be trusted, and most of all luck.
Plans to escape had to be kept secret. It was necessary to leave on short notice--usually at night--carrying whatever could be taken.
Often refugees met on a beach at night, with their children and whatever possessions they could carry--to take a small boat to rendezvous with a British or Dutch ship in deep water--trusting that those who helped them would not rob, murder, or betray them.
Escape was very dangerous!
Yet thousands escaped.
The Protestants tended to be wealthy, and many managed to smuggle their wealth out of France.
Those who escaped tended to prosper in other lands. Many came to America.
Actually, that fascist bastard HAS read the history books; that's why he endorsed it.
Nothing more Nazi than a liberal New Yorker, except maybe a California one.
Extremely telling data-point. Keep ‘er fueled and supplied.
In Hitler’s Germany if you wanted to leave (expatriate) you had to pay 100 percent of the next year’s taxes in advance and basically all you could take with you is what you could carry.
How did it take this long to get a Hotel California reference?
Our did I miss it?
