Multipurpose. Sometimes you just need a tall hanger with a very tall door.
Where else would you park your dirigible or your tall-tailed whatever to get it out of the hot sun?

“So why would the USAF build a hangar tall enough to house a jumbo jet?”
That size of hanger wouldn’t be unusual at all. What’s unusual is that anyone would think that size is unusual.

Two things come to mind: airships and ultra-light drone aircraft meant to stay high altitude airborne for years.
The latter have an exceptionally large wingspan.
It should be able to tell if the hangar is for an airship, as they have a rather unique design.

I just wonder what is being cooked up there.

So why would the USAF build a hangar tall enough to house a jumbo jetI'll be the first to admit that I know very little about aviation, but here's a thought: Maybe they plan to put a jumbo jet in there.
To: Duke C.
Location means it is not a hangar. It might be a standoff structure for aircraft that are being staged with armament and shade to keep them out of the sun.
If it was a hangar, it would be offset from the taxiway and runway by about 700ft. It’s location is similar to where one stages an armed aircraft with all the appropriate standoff distances to nearby occupied facilities.
Of course it might also be remotely located so the alien occupants don’t interfere with the mind control technologies of those operating the airfield. <8^0

So why would the USAF build a hangar tall enough to house a jumbo jet? Wasn't a chemically pumped, laser equipped, 747 undergoing development? It was intended to take out ballistic missiles during the boost phase. A smaller, truck mounted version has successfully demonstrated it's capabilities by destroying mortar and artillery shells in flight.
