They did not fight all out in Lebanon last time, under Labor gov’t
And Israel has quietly QUADRUPLED her air striking power over the last year or two, precisely for this task...
As for the Lebanese gov’t -dominated by Hezbollah still, I believe- the IDF could destroy the country’s military capacity in just four hours, if necessary:
I have not heard what came out of Thursday’s cabinet meeting in Israel. They are at a decision point - limit the operation to disabling cross-border tunnels, or extend it to strike at Hamas HQ under Gaza City, and go after collapsing their rule.
This may be the best set of circumstances they will ever get to take out Hamas.
No grand announcement, no warning - just hit them on all fronts at once, and pretend that you are still just twiddling around the edges.
Most of those guys are just in it for a paycheck - they will flip when they see the winds shift. Kill the leaders (a few hundred), seize their files and destroy their facilities. Outlaw Hamas and keep a task force hunting remaining leaders while an interim government stands up.
Dispossess Hamas leaders and their families of their ill-gotten properties and businesses in a blanket confiscation, and award them as compensation to those who were dispossessed by Hamas.
The more killed during wartime operations, the easier the transition will be afterward.
Agreed 100% on all points
The time is definitely right now, just feels right... and they’re already there, with the Islamists on the run
One word in response; YAY!!
BTW, I like your point about the leadership’s ill gotten gains
I read where there is 1200 millionaires in the Hamas ranks who got that way by skimming aid, arms, etc, + bribes and whatever they get from smuggling, I read once $20M a month
Indeed many lessons were learned from fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon. And the Israelis have since fielded several key technological innovations.
One of these innovations is Rafael's "Trophy" active defense system for armored vehicles, which detects and destroys incoming missiles several feet from their Trophy-equipped targets. This is Star Wars stuff that provides a dome of protection for IDF tanks that has the enemy baffled as their well-aimed shots are now disintegrating before they can strike the IDF Merkava tanks.
And how many of my taxpayer dollars went into building these tunnels and supplying weapons of destruction? Don’t imagine for a moment that I would prefer those weapons and tunnels would have been used for the Hamas-intended purpose, but I would’ve loved the IDF finding all the bookkeeping records that might fully document and prove how Obama’s administration has clandestinely given our money to our terrorist enemies.
I relish the thought of a treason trial reaching its inexorable conclusion.
Round up the all the men and women that have accepted Hamas money to fight and see them all punished with 20-year minimum sentences, or let them work them down to 15-year sentences by spending the first ten years laboring for the benefit of Israel. Guilty officers should get even greater sentences.
HF
Anti armor weapons are interesting although I really don’t know much about them.
I remember maybe 20-30 years ago, they had a Russian Tank which had been destroyed by Israel on view at Eglin AFB.
There was a hole in the tank’s armor which came from a small shell which struck it at a very flat angle. That bullet had gone through maybe a foot of armor and looked exactly like a pellet fired through a bar of soap. It absolutely went through that armor like it was just soft soap.
Wipe them out....All of them.
TALLY HO!

Israeli security cabinet rejects Kerrys ceasefire proposal
DEBKAfile July 25, 2014, 8:42 PM (IDT)
The Israeli security cabinet decided Friday to turn down US Secretary of State John Kerrys proposal of a one-week humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza hostilities, in the wake of its rejection by Hamas. The decision was reached at a special cabinet session.
uhhh...that would be a good thing because those kids will grow up to hate the Jooz...time to take out the trash...wholesale!
I forget what they call them...but there is a round within a round, and the outer round explodes and fires an armor piercing round into the armor. Works pretty well.
no...when you exterminate rats, you don’t put them in cages!
And how many of my taxpayer dollars went into building these tunnels...I believe I read on here this morning someone authorized a cement plant in the area 60 million dollars to rehabilitate Gaza (I may be wrong). None of it went to rehabilitation, it was stolen and used for the tunnels.
I think you may be referring to an explosively formed projectile?
Set up a claims system, so that the whole Gaza population can put in for a piece of Hamas’ carcass.
Set them all to plundering the running remanents of Hamas...
Align rewards and punishments with the desired outcomes.
Put a digestive process in place.
Israel should ignore leftist world opinion and not stop until every tunnel is destroyed...
For 15 years or more, the IDF possesses a sonic alarm system which totally debilitates those at whom it is directed. Left on, the alarm can permanently damage one’s nervous system. Seems to be an appropriate time to try it out at the mouth of every tunnel and see what happens.
