I have not heard what came out of Thursday’s cabinet meeting in Israel. They are at a decision point - limit the operation to disabling cross-border tunnels, or extend it to strike at Hamas HQ under Gaza City, and go after collapsing their rule.
This may be the best set of circumstances they will ever get to take out Hamas.
No grand announcement, no warning - just hit them on all fronts at once, and pretend that you are still just twiddling around the edges.
Most of those guys are just in it for a paycheck - they will flip when they see the winds shift. Kill the leaders (a few hundred), seize their files and destroy their facilities. Outlaw Hamas and keep a task force hunting remaining leaders while an interim government stands up.
Dispossess Hamas leaders and their families of their ill-gotten properties and businesses in a blanket confiscation, and award them as compensation to those who were dispossessed by Hamas.
The more killed during wartime operations, the easier the transition will be afterward.
Agreed 100% on all points
The time is definitely right now, just feels right... and they’re already there, with the Islamists on the run
BTW, I like your point about the leadership’s ill gotten gains
I read where there is 1200 millionaires in the Hamas ranks who got that way by skimming aid, arms, etc, + bribes and whatever they get from smuggling, I read once $20M a month
