There are enough signatures that have been to place on the ballot to break California up into six States.
Will never happen. Zero’s Fedzilla is busy erasing borders between countries AND states.

Oh my: California to really vote on whether to split into six states

Silicon Valley is one step closer to being its own state. No, really.

The liberal areas will never allow this. They need conservative money
Don’t piss the people off.... they will react
I would suggest this. A number of regions in California know that they are being unfairly taxed, with significant amounts of their California-state-taxed funds going to either LA or San Francisco. The “gift” money isn’t coming back to where it started.
If you ask anyone in LA....they will vote against the measure...probably 80-20 vote, my humble guess. However, beyond LA...it’s going to be closer to 50-50. The more rural areas will be higher with 60-40 voting in favor of a break-up.
Toss in the fact that the state legislature is unable to come up with a workable budget year after year, and more taxation on the table for future years....there’s a problem here. Add the fact that various companies in urban areas of California are looking at ways that they can relocate because of regulation going on....and you’ve got a potential mess brewing.
Let’s say it passes with a 55-45 win. Then, what? Will the state legislature and governor just ignore the vote and keep going? The odds are yes, with someone then tossing a court challenge to the legislature, which I think is what the intent of this whole thing will go to. Imagine some state supreme court judges having to invent a method to keeping the state as one, or having to agree that the vote has legit purposes.
we should be so lucky.
Actually it is not about tax money going to LA and San Francisco. It is about water going to LA and San Francisco. If this passes the new state in the Sierra would sell/give water to the conservative farmers in the Central Valley, but charge LA and San Francisco through the nose for any leftovers. That’s what the coastal libs will try to stop.
12 US Senators?
I don’t think so.
Not gonna happen.
I’m out quite a bit and no one hit me up for this stupid idea.
I think the President and Congress have to approve it too
I think only congress has to approve it.
Nuts! This is just the first step, one in which socialist will end up holding all our port cities. Look, we will NEVER cede a single square inch of American territory to the socialists. Are you kidding me? What have all our fallen heroes died for? That we should surrender half of America to its enemies?
Let dyed-in-the-wool socialists go elsewhere. If Russia demanded half of America, would we give it to them without a fight? Now, no more of this nonsense. We are going to take America back, NOT give away any of it, and expel the damned communists. Period.
Never happen.
California has 50 some odd electoral votes that go Democrat every single election cycle.
They’re not giving that up.
The fact that they wrote in this waiver for Texas (which still stands today for Texas to possibly break-up)....has never been challenged in court as to why one state gets that waiver, and none of the other forty-nine will be given that chance.
Under the right circumstance....I could see a challenge, and some Supreme Court judges grinning because they get to go back 1850s law, and debate a screwed-up waiver that got thrown into the mix and accepted for over a century.
Would the Senate even want to debate this? McCain, I would imagine would laugh and say “no-way”. Same for most of the Democratic leadership. The Supremes might not laugh that much and say that the Texas waiver opens the door for this split.
What’s the point? What are the political affiliations of these people who signed the petition? What’s the end game here? CA is horrible enough? Who would want 6 of it?
Oops. *CA is horrible enough.
If DC becomes its own state and California becomes. 6 states we’ll have 56 states; just one shy of the 57 he always refers to
I would move back to cali in a heartbeat if it wasn’t such a socialist basketcase.
There are plenty of solid red counties here, they’re just not as populated as the deep blue counties, therefore receive little voice when the state is taken as a whole. Optimisitically this would give voice to the red counties, and in effect would remove one blue state from the union, replacing it with 3 blue, 2 red and a purple (Sens. -2 D, +7 D/+5 R, or a slight % edge to R for the whole of the Senate.) That being said, I don’t necessarily have a favorable opinion of this move, six parts may be too many and like you, I have to wonder about the politics, the motive, of the people behind this push.
