Somebody told him a civilian plane was reported down and he promptly deleted it... so they did it

BTW this is the BUK missile system that took the plane down... obviously Russian or Russian proxies did this- it’s not some shoulder-mounted thing, and the system has never been sold to the Ukrainians

And Levin made an excellent point- the Russians have been shooting down planes from the same location as yesterday -3 just this week- and it IS actual Russian Air Force doing it, imho...

Actually, Ukraine is one of about a dozen countries that SA-17 missile systems, so the Ukrainian Army does have them. And given the amount of equipment that the pro-Russian separatists have gained from capture and defection from Ukraine forces and from seizure from warehouses in eastern Ukraine, there should be no surprise that the rebels also now have Grizzly systems. But neither side stands to benefit from shooting down a passenger airliner, so the most logical explanation is that the rebels mistook the Malaysian B777 for a Ukraine Air Force transport. I believe there has been at least one recent shootdown of a UAF AN-24 over rebel territory. Cui bono?

a post on the official Twitter account of the Donetsk People’s Republic, and later removed, claimed that the separatists earlier had seized a missile system called Buk from the Ukrainian army, capable of downing a jet at that altitude.
“dnrpress: self-propelled Buk surface-to-air missile systems have been seized by the DNR from (Ukrainian) surface-to-air missile regiment A1402,’’ said the post.
Since the Russian Air Force seems to have shot down a Ukrainian MIG three days ago, I was convinced the Russians did this but maybe it WAS their proxy force in Donetsk after all
