Meet the honest 27 year old single mom from PA who faces 3 years in a New Jersey prison
Shaneen Allen is no dangerous criminal. She's a single mom working 2 jobs who's already been robbed twice while traveling alone at night in Philadelphia. Her family suggested that she carry a gun for protection. She took a gun safety course, applied for and was granted a concealed carry permit, and bought a gun.
Then she made the mistake of driving into New Jersey.
Allen said that she didn't know her permit didn't apply to New Jersey so when she was stopped for a minor traffic offense she told the police about her gun and her permit to carry. In this case, being honest may have cost her.
"The judge tried to tell me that telling the truth messed me up, my life up and the cop said the same thing. Me opening my mouth and speaking out he said I'm one out of ten people that spoke up and was honest and that got me in trouble," she said.
Allen was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hallow-point bullets which were in the gun. Under New Jersey gun laws, the illegal possession of a gun is a second-degree felony which holds a minimum sentence of three-years in prison.
I hope all you moms demanding "gun sense" are happy. Because your draconian gun laws are working. They're taking dangerous criminals like Shaneen Allen off the streets, and leaving her kids to fend for themselves.
Oh, but wait, elsewhere in New Jersey today
Atlantic City: Shortly before noon a man was shot in the back at the corner of Connecticut and Drexel Avenues.
Camden: 2 people were shot this morning at the Regency House Apartment complex.
Winslow Township: A teen is recovering after a stray bullet hit her through a bedroom wall.
Paterson: A 19 year old man was arrested in the shooting death of 12 year old Genesis Rincon, who was killed while riding her scooter.
Newark: The homicide toll now stands at 44 after Edison Javier Vasquez Naranjo, 27, was found shot outside a home on the 200 block of 4th Street near the city's Branch Brook Park.
Putting a 27 year old single mom in prison surely would have prevented all that, right?
Of course not. Only an idiot, or a member of Moms Demand Action (but I repeat myself), could think otherwise.
All the feel-good legislation in the world wouldn't have stopped today's (or any other) shootings. And locking up Shaneen Allen is a travesty. She'll rot in jail just so preening soccer moms can pat themselves on the back.
Because that's what our state calls "justice" these days.
Would it be grounds to deny a renewal?
I don’t know why they remove the penalty and cannot prosecute, but still keep the requirement in place.
It seems it is not the same as removing the requirement.
The guy I shared my hall locker with all through high school was at our 20th reunion. He was a 16 year agent with the IRS and wasn’t too proud of it. I saw him again at our 30th reunion and he had left after 20 or 25 years and gone into business on his own.
He said he finally had all he could stand and wanted to enjoy knowing people without being ashamed of where he worked.
(2) [fails to display a license as required by Section 411.205;
I live in Eastern PA and always carry. The idea that missing a highway exit could make you a criminal is the most insidious thing to come out of legislators I ever heard of.
These laws are not only Unconstitutional, but immoral when honest people like this woman go to jail for simply defending their lives.
And if you are going to have the laws, enforce the F&^%ING things. David Gregory got off scot free yet this poor woman will rot.
Hope the people who write and enforce these laws rot in hell.
Every time you are leaving your state, you should be looking at reciprocation maps. I always use two sources, just to confirm.”
Not everyone is as smart as you are. Not everyone took a course that stressed this aspect of the law. Many people do not realize that every state is different and really do think they can carry in all states. This woman is guilty of being naïve.
If there is a fund set up for her, I would like to contribute. This sounds so much like the case of the young Marine in Mexico.
(e) The department shall renew the license of a license holder who meets all the eligibility requirements to continue to hold a license and submits all the renewal materials described by Subsection (a).
I don't know why they kept the requirement in the law. It's counter intuitive.
The difference is in Mexico they speak Spanish, New Jersey Nonsense!
The good news is that HE got out.
The bad news is that he left some real SOBs still there!
Time to RID us of the INCOME TAX and the IRS!
PLEASE DO NOT believe the lies being pushed by the MSM (yeah, like THEY tell the truth about anything) but find out how the FAIRTAX would shrink and KEEP fedzillas tax collection bureaucracy to less than 1% of its present size and eliminate PERSONAL interactions with INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS!
Follow the money.
It’s all about the money. And statistics.
Taking her off of the streets brings their firearms enforcement numbers up -regardless if she was a danger to anyone whatsoever or not.
I agree with you. A family member was caught in NY with a 9mm without a CCW. The cops let him go with a verbal warning and just kept the gun.
If this isn’t cruel and unusual punishment, then what is? You are arrested for doing something perfectly lawful only a few miles away.....with no ill intent.
Laws need to be based upon INTENT. Anything else is a violation of the Constitution. I believe one day we will see a SCOTUS ruling which says this.
I’m with you. CCW should be like a drivers license, good all over the US. You should only need on to carry on your person. Car, house, place of business should not require anything.
Proud parents, I’m sure.
Kudos.
Holy crap!
People should realize the police attempt to solve crime, not prevent it. The police have some good and some bad apples. Best keep your mouth shut and demand a lawyer guilty or not. We had a local case where a man was picked up on suspicion of buying stolen property because he admitted buying it from a neighbor. While being questioned he volunteered to stand in a line up on a rape case in an attempt to curry favor with the cops. Seven years of prison time served later he was freed on a DNA test.
There’s a lesson learned the hard way...
Funny, your comment takes not reading before commenting to a whole new level. The woman’s picture is in the excertpt. She is quite clearly not white.
forgive my impulsiveness.
I read the comments and responded to one of them before looking at the full monty article.
