In the past, I have hesitated about contributing to Free Republic. Utility bills are coming due, and my house needs a new roof.
But then I think about what I'd be willing to pay if this were a pay site. And then I think about all the good Free Republic does. I'll be sending out a money order, and soon.
Just something I had to say.
Thank you. Every dollar helps. I know that sounds silly and trite, but it’s true.
Please just figure out what you can send monthly, and set it up for auto pay. You’ll never think of it again that way.
I gave $100 some time ago, but according to my own perception, it seemed like I got some phone calls and stuff. Dunno, just sayin’. Made me shy, for sure. If there were a bucket on the corner, I would readily stuff it with twenties.
I used a prepaid debit card I bought at the supermarket. No problem.
My house needs MAJOR repair and my cars are in bad shape because I must pay my taxes first, and I must not forget my monthly tax payment because I made a mistake on my 2012 taxes but I still pay my FR donation of $10.00 monthly.
I won’t bother anyone with MY other problems.
That's why I'm going to send a postal money order to Free Republic. No personal checks. Not that I'm paranoid, or anything like that.
But FR is worth at least $10 per month to me. So a postal money order to FR of $120 makes sense.
Well said, sir.
I don’t generally give large amounts, and only semi-regularly, but I did also give $100 once, and noticed no uptick in phone calls or emails. I wouldn’t worry.
Now, if you give to a political candidate and they sell their donor list...now that’s a different story. It seems that half of some days are spent culling emails from obscure sources.
Thank you. We need this forum. One voice of freedom available.
I must not understand to what your allusions are referring, but, really, there is nothing happening from “the management.”
If you are getting crank calls, it's not likely due to Free Republic donations. Really.
However, it seems like every time I purchase more air time for the phone I begin receiving a sudden surge in the number of unknown and restricted calls coming in immediately after that. Then when I do a reverse-phone-lookup I notice quite a few others commenting about loan and mortgage offers from people with heavy foreign accents. As well as crank or vitriolic rude persons on the other end.
You might consider that it is not FR that is causing you your posted difficulties, especially considering that there is no advertising or ad-linkies allowed so there is no one that would have the ability to connect your donation to any information other than what you posted online.
Plus, as others have mentioned, a prepaid debit card is quite handy for all manner of donations. :)
FR is going to just fine. The lights won’t go out nor will the posts. We will see some interruptions which are typical towards the very end of every drive but that is just normal for “OMG!!! Hurry, DONATE!!” type thing.
The owners aren’t hurting and this site is basic by nature with limited bandwidth costs. I’ll probably get banned again for saying so; but the owners should put up their quarterly expense costs; it would make it a lot easier to justify donating (and I think you would be surprised at what they are charging for a perl based site vice the “real” expenditures”).
Thanks, but we make no telephone solicitations. No calls, no direct mail, no email spamming, no advertising, no marketing whatsoever
Thank you very much.
Clearly, you have no idea what the costs are for colocation services, database administration, systems administration, webserver administration, storage, backups, etc. Bandwidth ain’t the majority of the cost, genius.
Furthermore, your not-so-subtle suggestion that Jim and John are initiating system outages on purpose to get donations would be laughable if it weren’t so damn insulting. I am a DBA, sysadmin, webadmin, and computer programmer. I know WTF is involved in taking servers offline. It ain’t unplug-n-play, b*tch.
Now, step off.
