PC cleaner

Posted on 06/09/2014 9:37:39 AM PDT by tayper

What is a good PC and Reg Cleaner? They all say they are the best. My PC has gotten as slow as a snail with the sleeping sickness.

Free?

CCleaner http://piriform.com

Malwarebytes http://ninite.com

JV16 PowerTools is also a very handy item and includes a registry compactor.

If you’re having slowdown and malware issues, best to take it to a buddy who knows how to delete them without corrupting Windows or losing your Documents folders.

About once a year I format c: then reinstall Winders. Cleans it all up.

Glary Utilities
http://www.glarysoft.com/

CCleaner
http://www.piriform.com/

Both have ‘freeware’ for home use versions.

Registry cleaners do nothing to improve performance and most are used to deliver malware. If your PC is slowing down, scan it with Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro. Both are free.

I use Glary first and then follow-up with CCleaner. I’m very pleased with the results. CC will always catch about 150 Megs that Glary didn’t. I use Glary to disable or delay an number of programs at start up so about 65% of users are slower. I always scan and fix the registry too.

If after running all the cleaners and malware scans it still runs slow, then it may be that your hard drive is failing. You may also want to run a defrag on the disk.

Sorry, that may work for you, but it's really bad advice.
I've owned PCs since the IBM PC-XT and have never had a reason to format and reinstall.
Maybe if you took care of, and protected, your PC properly throughout the year, you wouldn't have to go that extreme.

1) TDSS Killer from Kaspersky, set to detect TDSS File System
2) Malwarebytes from Malwarebytes.org
3) appwiz.cpl via start menu or Windows+R and remove all unnecessary toolbars and junk so they dont come back.

Most of the time it’s a lot of junk on computers that causes it to slow down. That plus the age of the machine/not as much memory.

TDSS Killer: http://download.cnet.com/Kaspersky-TDSSKiller/3000-2239_4-75722087.html

Malware Bytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org

Make sure you don’t download any extra junk toolbars and uncheck Free Trial on Malware Bytes. If you are unsure whether to delete something, ask.

A new record! Fourteen posts so far (now fifteen) and still no chanting from the annoying gits of the computer universe to "Get A Mac"! (Even though it has already proven to be subject to hacking as well)

Good luck with your little problem, and pay no attention to the owners of the Atari2400 of the computer world -the Macophiles.

FReepers are quite good with help when you need it, actually.

*snicker* Funny. Saved so I can look into making a fake wallpaper to pretend this computer is running your pic of the "Redneck Winders".

I especially like the icons. :)

I actually enjoy doing it. And it is my preference and yes, not everyone should do it just because I suggest it.

I do take care of and protect my PC properly. Why would you suggest I don't?
