All that drinking going on by Americans in muslim lands...
Now we are too afraid to even have a beer in Afghanistan without getting a GOMAR.
Can’t afford to upset their backwards culture this time around...
We had more balls back then, didn’t we.
thank you very much for sharing your Father-in-Law’s memoir.
Great read. Thanks.
My dad was there. He only talked about the fun he had.
Thank you for sharing your father-in-law’s story.
It is amazing the level of detail he could remember. I guess when your life is on the line, you tend to remember a lot of things.
In the beginning, when his wife drove away, and he walked toward his tent, after saying good-bye, they would increasingly separate and the distance between them would grow, by the moment, to thousands of miles, before they would re-unite.
Thousands of miles and years apart.
Can’t wait to read your mother-in-law’s impressions.
If any Freepers still have a WW2 vet alive in their families, now is the best time to record their experiences. They will not grace us with their presence much longer.
Thanks for enjoying my father-in-law’s story.
Thanks for reading my father-in-law’s story as well as putting the word out to record other memories.
Reads somewhat like my Father’s notes from the Pacific Theater in WWII, and my great-grandfather’s diary from the Civil War.
Thank you - my father was in the 34th Div and was in the North Africa landings, but further east.

Your family’s notes may be worth putting out there as part of our history, Iny0-Mono.
Thanks for sharing.
Who knows? They may have crossed paths.
Thank you for his service.
You know, I never thought of that till I read this. My great-grandfather’s Civil War diary is fascinating, even the mundane things like firing their muzzle loading rifles off so that they could clean them after a days march. My Father, who died in 1988, wrote down some harrowing tales of his missions on a B-24 against the Japanese. He was in the battle of Midway.
Thank you very much for this. It is always interesting reading the experiences told by one who was there. Looking forward to reading your other links.
BUMP FOR LATER...
Many of those daily things can be very interesting in light of history, Inyo-Mono.
Thanks for considering my father-in-law’s story worth a read.
Thank you for your uncle’s service to our country. He sacrificed for our freedoms.
