All that drinking going on by Americans in muslim lands...
Now we are too afraid to even have a beer in Afghanistan without getting a GOMAR.
Can’t afford to upset their backwards culture this time around...
thank you very much for sharing your Father-in-Law’s memoir.
Great read. Thanks.
My dad was there. He only talked about the fun he had.
Thank you for sharing your father-in-law’s story.
It is amazing the level of detail he could remember. I guess when your life is on the line, you tend to remember a lot of things.
In the beginning, when his wife drove away, and he walked toward his tent, after saying good-bye, they would increasingly separate and the distance between them would grow, by the moment, to thousands of miles, before they would re-unite.
Thousands of miles and years apart.
Can’t wait to read your mother-in-law’s impressions.
If any Freepers still have a WW2 vet alive in their families, now is the best time to record their experiences. They will not grace us with their presence much longer.
Reads somewhat like my Father’s notes from the Pacific Theater in WWII, and my great-grandfather’s diary from the Civil War.
Thank you - my father was in the 34th Div and was in the North Africa landings, but further east.

I was truly captivated, thank you for sharing .
What a great read...I especially like the writing style...concise and with little gems of wisdom interspersed.
Ping for later.
Marvelous read, and thanks for posting! My late Dad was there, and it was there he got his first Purple Heart. He too continued to Sicily, up the Italian peninsula, and so on to France and finally Germany. The only part he ever talked about even a little was how the children suffered.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
