The Washington Post ^ | May 22, 2014 | Cindy Boren

Actor Terry Crews used a very loaded word to describe his former employer, the NFL. “There is this thing where the team kind of looks at [itself] as your father,” Crews said in an interview with Sports Illustated Now. “And it’s kind of weird, because it’s like ‘You’d do this for the team, right?’

And the NBA is taking notes from the sermons.

And the people bowed and prayed to the NFL god they made.

Bread and Circuses...

Welfare and Sports...

That will be a line used to describe the Fall of the American Republic 500 years from now...

There’s a lot of truth to that.

Ever notice how, many of Bobby Knight’s former players still revere him? Despite what a jerk he may have been.

It’s because he was the only father figure they had in their lives, and he gave them a sense of discipline, that they never got at home growing up.

The Kinks - Give the People What They Want

Well, it’s been said before, the world is a stage
A different performance with every age.
Open the history book to any old page
Bring on the lions and open the cage.

Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please

The Roman promoters really did things right.
They needed a show that would clearly excite.
The attendance was sparse so they put on a fight
Threw the Christians to the lions, sold out every night

Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please

That idiot coach called the wrong play! That quarterback is worthless. It is never: These politicians are worthless.

Actually, they believe that the politicians ARE worhtless... and thus not worth troubling over... or voting for...

The league minimum is $285,000. The league average salary is $1.9 million.

No one owes these people anything. They, like all of us, make their own beds. No one told them not to become a CPA.

There is probably some segment of the population that enjoys watching sports because, unlike in our society, the rules of the game are actually enforced.

There is no “has become”.
Rather, you have matured enough to perceive football as it is.

Of course they did. Many pumped themselves full of steroids looking like wrestlers out of WWF just to get that fat check and fan worship.
They all knew.

People forget that the NFL is a business, a multi-billion dollar business. A multi-billion dollar business that enjoys taxpayer subsidies and taxpayer funded facilities. A multi-billion dollar business that enjoys the fact that most of its employees are trained at taxpayer expense. A multi-billion dollar business that abandons ex-employees who suffer and die due to injuries received on the job.

All while they support the left wing political agenda.

Ummm...

Doesn’t FReeper etiquette demand pictures with a story like this? (For the ladies...)

Crew does crack me up. Nothing like a big guy with a sense of humor. The Old Spice commercials slay me.

Ever notice how the teams in the major markets get much better coverage and timely calls by the refs?

Almost like they are manipulating the league for monetary reasons. hmmmmmm

It’s because he was the only father figure they had in their lives

Oh, please. I assume you're not too familar with Indiana basketball? How many players on Indiana teams can you name that didn't have father figures?

Look up what Knight did for Landon Turner or Kirk Haston, and you'll know why his players are loyal.
