The Bureau of Land Management announced that it would not enforce a court order to round up cows owned by Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, effectively ending the siege at the southern Nevada ranch.
Associated Press:
Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public, BLM Director Neil Kornze said.
We ask that all parties in the area remain peaceful and law-abiding as the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service work to end the operation in an orderly manner, he said....

Even it could stand to be “liberalized” to make more sense. Delta smelt, for example... they are not native, and they live many other places in the world, so why care about them in US waterways. Give zoos dibs on anything where biologists are really worried about losing a species.

"Someone at BLM..."
That would be Rustler Reid's staffer of 3 years ago, Director Neil Kornze.

Ive never seen the Feds retreat so fast from anything! Why?I think they totally underestimated the anger, determination and the sheer number of people who showed up.

... not enforce a court order ... The Bundy issue aside, was rounding up cows an option with the court order, or is BLM in contempt of court for ignoring the order?

Well shine light on a roach and it runs for cover. Reid was blinded by the light. That and the BLM goons are not used to facing down a bunch of righteous US citizens some with weapons.

The goons were a little less reckless than some local SWATteries. They did not want a full on war.

The last thing in the world the Democrats want is a GOP senate.
While true there isnt a whole lot of difference between a Dem Senate and a Repelicans senate when they are both run by the progressives in their party and they both hate conservatives.
Last time the Repelicans had the senate they gave half of the committees to the Dems and didnt slow down spending and dime while approved a bunch of Government expansions for the dependency class.

"why the sudden turn around?"
I don't think the BLM had an order to perform this invasion themselves and Rustler ('roach) Reid was suddenly under the glare of a Searchlight.

That was like a barely half held Senate. Get comfortably over and the tone would change.

Somebody at PJ Media or the Associated Press thought it was. I don’t change headlines unless they’re too long to fit.
