Apparently channeling an ignorant character that he sometimes plays on his TV show, comedian Stephen Colbert tweeted on Thursday, I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever.
Since then, racial outrage has ensued and the hashtag #CancelColbert has been trending nationally on Twitter. However, in this instance, some context is important. Mediaites Josh Feldman explains:
Stephen Colbert, in case you didnt know this, plays a character on his TV show. A character that is purposefully ignorant. As hes said in the past, I do the show in character and hes an idiot; hes wilfully [sic] ignorant of everything were going to talk about. So bear that in mind as you read about people on Twitter calling for Colbert to be cancelled because of a tweet the show sent out that said some purposefully ignorant things.

Just one question, though. Shouldn't the people who laugh at such humor be castigated for laughing at it?
I mean, his audience, for instance.
I've watched his show. I think it's funnier than Jon Stewart's or any of the late night talk shows.
I watch already knowing his darts are aimed at people like me.
But, the weird thing is, his audience laughs uproariously at these kinds of bits.
Am I to assume someone on his production staff roams the streets of New York and purposely finds people like myself to fill the seats?
If not, are we to believe that the people in his audience are laughing at the idea that people like me find this kind of humor funny or do they find the bit funny themselves?
Hmmmmm. I wonder.
Stick with the rule book.
You can only make fun of white, Christian, heterosexual males...
He’s what liberals believe we are...............
Given how few people watch or are even aware of his niche show, he shouldn’t assume that people would see that he was attempting satire.
You would be surprised (or maybe not) at the number of people who think(?) that Colbert is sincere and that the show is real..............................
I watched the bit live the other night. It was a funny parody of the Redskins creating a foundation for native Americans. In no way did I think the bit was racist. Then again, I don’t walk around consumed in thought over whether or not something can be construed as racist.
Colbert does Hannity better than Hannity.
His audience = Purposefully ignorant
I don't do being offended. When you let someone offend you, you have given them control over your emotions.
I realize he's doing an impersonation. But that's kind of my point. IS HE? This stuff is written up by 30 or 40 paid Liberals. Are we supposed to believe that when they bat these things around in the production meeting they aren't laughing their Bidens off at what they come up with?
They're like the guy who farts at the dinner table and blames it on the dog.
Anthroprogenically ignorant.
Thank you, government-run schools.
Calling al sharpton, al sharpton. How dare you white liberal joksters feel that comfortable. Oh....this is about asian americans? nevermind this is a on story. Al forget it tawana brawley still loves you
You’re right. Its not humor, its mocking.
Or Clinton voters or Pelosi voters or...well, you get the idea.
He’s what liberals know THEY are - they project their guilt.
He's appealing to his audience's ignorance ABOUT the supposedly ignorant.
To me, they are called In-Laws...................
