In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

Very interesting!
Best wishes for a successful day to y’all. I was going to have a choir practice this morning, but Cary called and said she was poorly, and then she said she would call Asuncion and tell her that she (Cary) had told me I shouldn’t go out this morning because I’ve been sick and need to stop doing so much. So I stayed home and read to the boys.
But now we’re going to the library to return the books and the hospital (which is near the library) to pick up Pat’s vaccination record ... but I won’t tell Cary.
I put a big pork roast in the crock pot to take to the homeless mission this evening, but after several hours, I noticed it wasn’t getting hot. Turns out I’d plugged in Bill’s coffee maker instead of the crock pot!
That's almost as bad as brewing a pot of coffee only to realize when it was done that you hadn't smelled the coffee perking. The reason? No coffee...just water. I'm sorry for the SNAFU...I just HATE when it happens.
I REALLY want to go back to bed and lie down for a bit, but I have to leave in about 15 minutes. When I get done at the doctor's, I will stop by Walmart. I need something for my throat!
Honey?
We skipped the hospital. It’s raining.
I love the ground you walk on was the story that he told,
for they lived in the Klondike and the ground was full of gold...
Gargle with soluble asprin. Trust me ,it has worked for the last 4 generations. :)
I see an angel, white robes, swirling gold mantle, head thrown back, arms raised holding a blob of red fire.
Either that or God has three fingers and a thumb...
I can’t do aspirin. It makes my ears ring and my stomach bleed.
I like your first photo/explanation. Awesome!
I found some generic anesthetic throat spray, so I’m good.
The ophthalmologist says I’m good to go, and that my vision is 20/20. SO GOOD!!!
I'm surprised they didn't, as part of their outreach program, say hand of allah...
Yea! Great news about the eyes!
I’ve just finished the Envirothon practice questions. Now I’m going to lie down. The pork roast smells really good!
The doc did prescribe reading glasses for me, but I need to get them somewhere else, as the insurance won’t cover Westfield, any more. What a hassle.
A pork roast simmering in the crock would smell luscious today. I tried to eat some split pea soup, but didn’t get very far with it.
*tagline*
Excellent news on your eyes, face!
No need for glasses, then. :)
You don’t swallow the asprin, just gargle.
Looked like GOD doing a facepalm to me.
Humans do have an inbuilt need to see faces on objects, but this is very clear.
GOD does have sense of humour, so maybe, just maybe. :)
When I do that with the coffeemaker, Mr. Sg thanks me for almost making the coffee.
I don’t know if your Wal Mart carries them, but the desert one I used to patronize had Equate cough drops that really were soothing. Our middle-of-nowhere Wal Mart only carries Hall’s.
