In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

Peas through strainth?
Peas and hominy.
Still takes some grit.
Yesterday (Mar. 2) was Dr. Seuss's birthday and we missed it here on the Right Coast. You on the Left Coast still have a couple of hours...
So, Happy Birthday, Theodor Geisel. Thanks for the ... Whos.
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go... ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!
They say I'm old-fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast! ― Dr. Seuss
They're in the aquariums...
I was thinking of Dr. Seuss, and his "Oh, The Places You'll Go!", when I was in the hospital.
So my "The Places" may have a somewhat familiar tempo to it.
Good doctors make a difference when you're in the hospital ...
.
The Places
"Oh! The Places Youll Go!" ... and now look where Ive got!
The air is too cool, but the nurses are hot!
Ive been poked at and sampled from spots here and there,
And orifices looked into almost everywhere.
In places where tissues were hidden from sight,
They used new technology shiny and bright.
With Magnets and Crookess Tubes and scanners and such,
They studied my innards. No expense was too much!
With blood samples taken for each Doc on each floor,
I decided that surely I could tell them the score.
It seemed rather safe one could make this prediction,
At some point theyd discover my anemic condition.
So how did this happen, and why am I here?
At least I am comforted -- it wasnt the beer!
It seems Ive been prideful, and bragging too much,
Forgetting at times that my makeup is such,
That the tiniest thing in a wrong little spot,
Can remind you, like others, immune you are not!
So Im humbled and stumbled, and felled from my perch,
And one lesson seems clear, "Pay attention in Church!"
Oh, Ill be okay. Im getting the point,
Im confident soon Ill walk out of this joint.
Much better than how I hobbled and stumbled,
As I entered my quest to be poked at and humbled.
Theres a lesson Ive learned -- more than IVs and pills,
If youre milking Human Kindness, watch out for some spills.

Good morning, Northrons.
HO HO HO. NEENALOLO SSOLO! JABBA NO BAHGREY!
Just imagine the static charge there!
ME! If they haven't already been claimed, I mean. :o|
I saw their (Top Gear) Search for the source of the Nile, and it was hilarious. I miss having them on my own TV...
Awww....FLOOFY!
One wonders how much cat is under that fur!
I saw part of a Top Gear show about the North Pole last week.
I’m having snow, and the coffee ain’t cutting it.
I wish I could afford the extended channels, but I can’t. I miss Top Gear.
My check hasn’t been posted, yet, and that leaves me in a pickle. GAH! I need to change cards, I think... “They” said it would be posted “at 7:00 am.” That means my morning is going to be LONG and stressful because of the crowds and long lines at the check stands.
I need a stiff drink to start my day clam. I hate glitches on payday...like, I get so many of them.
