In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

Most people don’t realize that animal blood (dog, cat, horse, cow, etc.) is in demand in animal emergency rooms.
They also don’t realize that the first transfusion was attempted with dog blood to human blood. It was only after that that blood types were discovered.
Bless your mom!
Might have something to do with this info Darks ... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3126987/posts?
Yeesh, ITunes..
We have those cat clawing things in different areas of our home. One cat claws it like it was the end of the world. It trims or pulls off the old nails.
We had a Vet Tech come to our home one time. We are still friendly with her although we haven’t had any problems recently.
When we had her come over, we had just brought in the twin brother of the Halloween twins. He wouldn’t come in, and they pined for each other. Finally on New Year’s Eve, Cyber caught him and brought him in. We brought him to our vet on January 2 for shots and the other stuff they do.
Well, this cat had gerardia. We brought him back to the vet for medication which we gave to him. Lo and behold, the other four cats contracted this horrible parasite. All of them had to be treated. This was before Fred and his sister.
We had an older cat who had to be treated, so there were four of them. We couldn’t catch them to give them the medication. So we called the Vet Tech who was terrific. She taught us how to give liquid medicine to cats.
We had all four of them in our bedroom. Got the medication down the two older cats. Somehow the twins were missing. The doors were closed. There was no way out. No cats. The Vet Tech and I were doing the billing while Cyber was in the room watching.
Cyber noticed a drawer move under the television which is in an amoire. He called the Vet Tech back in the room. Guess who had hidden in two different drawers. They had climbed behind the television and gotten in the drawers. She came back in, gave them their medication.
We don’t know what we would have done without her. It’s a great profession!!! Proud of you.
Umm...
That would be Roberta White, Bobbi for short. She enjoys sharing white with you, especially if you are wearing dark clothing. (You know, the better to contrast her gift..)
And she's either spayed or sterile because in her time outdoors before she became a Hauskatze she never gifted us with a litter, and never acted hormonal...
I know, I know. But it’s easier than Amazon. At least it was back when I signed up.
Not to mention yeti tend to smell better than liberals...
She does do a remarkable job at rearranging deskborn items into pleasing undesigns.
*horrified*
Amazon!
The site that eats every bit of everything you punch in, and then tells you that you did it wrong.
Ask Darks about that special spider plant that he grows just so it can serve as kittysalad... ;-)
OMG, that’s the color of the next cat I want to get, all white. We have one all grey, one all black, one Calico, one Tuxedo and Fred the Insane.
The neighbor who is trying to get two of the litter of six still remaining told me one of the cats is all white with just brown spots. It would look like my cow when I went to a farm every summer. So Tootsie would be his/her name.
What is this plant of which NoCmpromiz is speaking? I do need to know these very important things.
I miss it, Slippy, I really do! Animals are so much fun, so gratifying and so humiliating, that I find it hard to pretend I’m complete without them.
Animals are clever, and some are more clever than others. However, if you sit for a while and observe them, they will let you know what they are about.
I always let them know that I’m curious, but I won’t harm them and that any time they are ready to be friends, I’m available. Oddly enough, they respond.
I’ve had that spiderplant since I was in second or third grade or so.
It survived all attempts on its life by Mimi, and it isn’t do so good these days as there is no window to put it in.
NO!!! NO WAY am I going there! *HALP*

The spiderplant is older than my sister.
