In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senates immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...
Highlights from Article:
- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.
- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.
- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.
- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.
- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, The number of jobs in the United States is not static. Its fluid, which is how we want it to be.

My bank robot has no access to my phone. Email, yes. Phone, no. NSA has to work to pin something on me!
I feel so selfish. I want more.
See, Darks, this is my type of genre.
I love this story Geron!
My Great Dane weighed 180 pounds. He did have dysplasia which I noticed at age one. He lived nine-and-a-half years, which is great for a Great Dane. Shilo was his name. I could never have that breed of dog again. Their lives are so short because of their size.
No more at the moment. I still need to clean up another story, “The Arrivals” that I posted a bunch of on an old thread a while back. That one is 84 pages, so far.
Bank robot called the house phone.
:-/
They don’t have them in my store, so I’m going to have to place a mail order.
This one goes to Miss Slippy!
Thank you, Geron. I’m still thinking of your story which should be a book.
I had that happen recently. I had just purchased a couple of cartons of smokes, and was driving home from the store when my cell phone went off, it was the bank. I said, “Yes, I just charged $118.53 at Circle K.” He said “WRONG! You spent $118.73 at Circle K!” We had a good laugh at that.
First time I’ve had them bother calling.
Our cats love oat grass. Not to contradict you, but that helps with getting rid of the hairballs in their tummies. They do throw it up with all kinds of hair in it.
So it’s good for them in a way, I guess. I grow it every spring for them. They do not like catnip, not one of them.
Tell me when it is for sale. I will buy it.
I’ve had them do it a few times. Once, AmEx called me and there was a bogus charge for $1,200. In Columbia. The source of the fraud was Itunes, where I had just set up an account. I still use them, but only with gift cards I buy at the grocery store.
AmEx had fresh cards in our hands the next day.
BTW, Miss Slippy and I are “Kindle-friendly.”
I’ve never had a dog that big, but I would kill (almost) for a great Dane! I love them and would love to have one!
I understand about the size:death ratio. It happens.
As am I!
long enough for a Kindle “short book” I guess.
Cats (and dogs) eat grass specifically because they can’t digest it. It brings up any toxins they may have eaten, so if your cat eats greens and pukes, its because they ate something their bodies couldn’t handle.
If you give them some Vaseline when you trim their nails (or give it because it is good for them) they will no longer give you gifts of hairballs. The Vaseline (or generic petroleum jelly) will help them pass whatever is in their systems that is toxic.
And you can’t “contradict” me because I have been a Vet Tech. No harm, no foul. :o])
When I was a child in Missouri, my family had a fawn Great Dane. His name was, of course, Marmaduke. I truly believe the larger the dog, the friendlier they are. That Dane weighed in at 250 pounds. He, too, thought he was a lap dog.
We got him for free from our next-door neighbors. They had two other males named (this should not be heard by children) Damnit Sam and Sam Damnit. We never knew which dog they were calling.
My mom who always figured out how to make money on things, sold his blood to the local vet about every three months to pay for vet bills. Marmaduke never minded.
One or actually two of family members have been. Son and Daughter-In-Law. They loved it and spent money, I think. Well am not certain about the money spent part, but they loved it. (tourist board bit done here too, moose!)
