A few distro’s are too big to install into RAM if you don’t have a lot of RAM.

A possibility, although I thought that unit had 2 gig like the other XP laptot does (and on which I can boot the Linux DVD..)

I'll check the ram first and then try another distro, or something. What I tried is one of those Ubuntu offspring (Mint) which I have running on another desktop here (one of those 'extra' thingies that Mrs. NoC threatens to beat me with... ;-) I do think that they have a 'lite' version, just never thought it necessary.

Thanks, I'll let you know.

...all I need now is someone who will go with me for the four hour block around the GI test.

As they say in the business, "Now is when you find out who your true friends are."

Good luck in the coming weeks, my dear 'Face.

Well, once I get this stuff out of the way, I will be free to move about the country!!!

Have no fear, Cyber. Someone will come to my aid from a least expected quarter, just in the nickel of time!

It’s January.

Yes, but she's a kid and you're just a Mom. Don't expect everything to be rational - to you... ;-)

Besides, just TRY to find any January-appropriate clothes at WallyWorld now...

Do you have the original software? If not, you’ll need to download it from the manufactures website.

Do you remember what it was called?

I got my shingles vaccine. Yeah, an accomplishment!

Netflix sent the first few episodes of “Hunter” on DVD. Maybe I’ll watch it later and color.

I used to really enjoy that show! I really need to spend less time here, and more on Netflix...my movie queue is longer than two pieces of string.

Fred Dryer was a real cutie-pie, and the lady was cool, too.

“People need to stop drinking the tequila,” says DP. Unnngh, life is a zoo around here. (It wasn’t me.)

Walmart had one rack of boys’ long-sleeve shirts left, when I went to get some for James, and there were only two in his size. At least they were on markdown.

Wednesday’s trains came today and yesterday. Yesterday, it was early morning. Today, it just went by. Odd, but I feel the vibrations in my body before I actually hear the train.

I wonder why that is?

I don’t know. Maybe the ground conducts vibrations more effectively than the air conducts sound waves.

Something for Pat to cogitate...

I felt the vibrations in my dreams yesterday before I actually heard the train which eventually woke me up. It was the vibrations, I’m sure that prompted the dream of the train, as in the dream, I saw it as a speck with a light in the center, ‘way down the track.

If it had been real life, I would not have heard it or felt it for at least three minutes, maybe more, because of the distance and the speed of the train. Since we are in the city limits, I’m sure the speed of the train is somewhere around two or three mph. The plant it comes from is three miles, and the train can be seen on the tracks a good three miles, in the switching yard.

Our bodies are more sensitive than we realize. If you were awake, your mind would have dismissed the faint vibrations you felt as “not information we need right now.” Since you were asleep, your filters were down.

At least, it’s a theory!

Did you read about the foreigner who was listening on the track in NYC to see of train was coming? Yup, he picked the third rail. “Poof!”

I’m pretty sure that was in England. The young man had recently moved from Pakistan.

Yup. I forgot about the England part, but the guy was a Pak. That must be the story.

2GB should definitely be enough for most of them, does the disc drive spin when you boot the machine? Many computers check the disk drive before booting from the HDD.
