Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has won the 2013 Heisman Trophy.
Winston is only the second redshirt freshman to win the award after Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel was handed the trophy as a redshirt freshman last year. Winston is the third player in school history to earn the distinction, following former Seminole QBs Charlie Ward ('93) and Chris Weinke ('€™00).

There are a lot of old pharisaical fuddy duddies on this site….they have no idea what the hunter/prey situation is like on college campi today with the proud cleat chasers looking to get a notch in THEIR belts…. not to mention the whole “black on white” thing.
I think it’s pretty clear what this was…..and Jameis was no saint, but he was no criminal either.

That much evidence? The evidence exonerated Winston and discredited the accuser. Why would even an aggressive DA like Willie Meggs -- who has prosecuted star FSU athletes in the past -- present such a garbage case to a grand jury?
It will be interesting to see what comes out in court if the victim files civil charges. The statement her lawyers made Friday makes that sound possible.
You do realize that the lawyer is the accuser's aunt, don't you? The family is humiliated that their beautiful blonde daughter has made a sport of banging black athletes, and they want to get even by ruining the one of the lot who is now most famous.
Here's another little item for you... The "accuser" is not the one who brought the accusation. It was her friend who called her family and then the police against her wishes. Once she was busted as a slut, she thought she had to go along, albeit haltingly and with an accounting which changed at least three times.
And another thing... The eyewitnesses saw the accuser on her knees giving Winston a BJ and also saw her engaged in intercourse mounted on top of Winston. Does that sound like rape to you?

first, the girl reported the alledged rape in 2012 when Winston was a nobody.
second, Florida State will get their rears kicked because they played a crappy schedule.
I was a varsity athlete in college, graduating in '91. What sport(s) did you play? How recently?
As a matter of fact I have been chased by beautiful women. I made it plain that I was not interested because they did not strike me as appropriate to marry. Then I found myself chasing a beautiful woman. We later got married.
I never even thought about engaging in sex with those beautiful girls, and especially not with anyone else around.
That seemed like pure immorality to me.
I know that is considered odd this day and age.
I don’t think this was rape and have not thought so from the beginning given the known facts and the credibility of the accuser.
He was the best player in college football this year. No arguments here.
As for being old fashioned - I am guilty as charged. I am not naïve and I know this stuff goes on, but character counts and both Winston and the confused woman did not demonstrate it IMO. I can understand why 12% of voters did not include him on their ballot.
Many young people have heard about this story if they follow news or sports. Many young people will hear he won the Heisman. What kind of message does this send to children?
And a lot of Freepers are right there, leading the charge against Winston without the faintest idea of what goes on with big time athletes and young girls on campuses today.
Healthcare.gov runs ads about sex, and guess what? The predators are the WOMEN in the ads, because that is the norm today. Throw an athlete into the mix, and that’s even more likely.
Character does count, but we are dealing with the universe of college jocks here. This was not the Nobel Peace Prize (oh, wait, BAD example.)
My point is this, if we were to count agreeing to have sex with good looking women who want your body - as bad character for the purposes of football awards, there would be no awards given. I obviously do not know that this was the case with Winston, but it appears to have been given some of the evidence.
If at some point a big time cover up is exposed, and the use of the date rape drug is demonstrated - then I’m sure the award will be withdrawn, as has happened in the recent past with Reggie Bush. As of today, however, there is no basis, even on character, not to give him the award. Seems like some people are assuming guilt.
And then the bad guys -- the vengeful, spurned slut and her ambulance-chasing aunt -- would have won. Giving in to false charges only encourages more of them in the future.
The scene in 2013 is thousand of years removed from the scene in 91 - irrelevant.
I graduated from Troy in 73.I attended on an athletic scholarship and held several records, one lasted for 28 years. A couple of others will probably never be broken due to rules changes.
