My favorite speech by THE Sam Houston:

“TEXAS CAN GET ALONG WITHOUT THE UNITED STATES, BUT THE UNITED STATES CAN NEVER GET ALONG WITHOUT TEXAS !”

“...No, there is not one Texan on this thread who would want to secede just because it was a neat thing to do. Every one of us does not want to have to do that, and you owe every Texan on here an apology for saying that....”

Right on, Marcella. I love my country and would hate to see this happen, but there comes a time when departure from the Marxist State becomes necessary in order to remain a free society. However, there are some on here that like the status quo, have no respect for those that love freedom etc. It appears that FR is occasionally infiltrated by libs posing as conservatives. Where no respect is given, none is earned. BTW, wanna see how to deal with the illegals? Let Texas get out from underneath the oppressive DC regime and you will see it happen. We’ve already done it once in 1836. We know how to deal with it.

The barking “woof” could be heard echoing across the rolling hills, signalling a meeting of “The Pound”...

And a certain expat trembled at the howl...

Heheh...

Marcella's right, DD. Your remark that most Texans on the thread seem to be ready to secede for less than the most consequential reasons, is somewhat of a loose ad hominem. I think you know better.

At least you should.

We're doing what any sane and well informed group of patriots ought to be doing. We're discussing the possible/probable effects of the recent tyranny our people have endured at the hands of their federal government. One of those effects is the possible/probable secession by one or more American states - as a solution to save and protect what's left of their people's liberty and property.

It's only one possible scenario, but one that intelligent people should at least be exploring in a time such as this.

Who knows - maybe a miracle happens, and we elect so many new TEApublicans to Congress next year, that they wrest control away from the traitors, and set us back on a path that would be recognized by the Framers.

Or maybe Obamacare does so much real damage to the people and our economy, that a winning plurality of Americans has a 'come to Jesus moment', and rejects that bankrupt philosophy so thoroughly that the Democrats wind up in the wilderness for decades.

One can only hope.

Perhaps in yet another scenario, a requisite number of state legislatures convenes an Article V convention and proposes amendments to the Constitution that will firmly re-set the course of the country onto its original track.

Dunno. It could happen. There are some encouraging things happening in that area as we speak.

The point is, the path we're on is unsustainable, and the side that's driving the country down that road is so intractable and dedicated to their suicidal agenda, that nothing short of something truly drastic will save us now.

As for secession - there's every chance that it could come as the result of a complete breakdown of the federal system itself. Instead of states declaring it, they might wind up simply acknowledging it as their de facto status in a failed country.

While I'm not a Texan (maybe I shouldn't tell you I was born in Oklahoma), I was stationed there for five years, and I've never met a prouder bunch of folks from any state.

I wasn't born here either, brother, but I got here as fast as I could! :-)

You know you've got a place at our campfire anytime you want to show up.

I say that it is past time to leave the very flawed union. We have oil, gas, cattle and fishing, not to mention a huge petrochemical industry and tourism (including for hunting).

Don't forget farming. Texas is a huge bread basket and can feed itself nicely.

Oh, and we also have about 2 guns for every adult in the state, so nobody’s going to bother us (and if they do, it won’t be for long).

Yes, sir. We've also got a huge defense industry and can build damn near any sort of armaments the Republic of Texas might be short on.

Let's also not forget that we've got one of the country's deepest major sea ports. Should we ever decide to leave, the rest of the Gulf states would likely come with us, giving the new republic control of the whole Gulf of Mexico.

Texas is also the only state with its own power grid, except for El Paso being on the West grid and a few portions of East Texas on the Eastern US grid. And we have two nuclear power plants along with all the oil and gas to run them.

Many of the large base-load power plants in East Texas are fuelled by lignite.

"You know you've got a place at our campfire anytime you want to show up."

I love my adopted home state, but you never know...if the job search doesn't get any better soon, it won't take much for me to head back to the Republic of Texas. Yeah, Austin is behind enemy lines, but for musicians, there aren't too many places better to be. I've always fantasized about playing the 311 or the Continental Club. Or Joe's Generic!

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

“Wrong...more money pours out of Texas than goes into it.”

Your about page does not say in which state you live. You are wrong in your above stated “opinion”.

Texas is never in the red, never overspent, as our constitution requires the state to balance their budget every time we have a new one and that is every two years when the legislature meets. Our economy is larger than many countries in the export of goods and manufacturing. Every state would fail before ours.

I think the poster means the federal beast takes more than it “gives back” (misnomer). Which is obvious since the beast has to be fed and that takes 20-50% off the top.

Texans pay more into the federal system than they get out of it.

Oh...I am a Real Native Texan.
