Rap and Obama go together like evil and filth!

I have felt for years that our art, music, and movies are failing to lift us up as a society, rather they shove what passes for society deeper into a sewer.

Reading posts on almost any website shows how insulting and uncivil we have become to each other. The recent pastime of negro youths sneaking up behind unsuspecting and decent people then knocking them out for sport comes to mind.

I feel like I’m living through a bad dream, with so many of our societal links imploding. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m going to wake up from it until we all are shoved into the fema camps. Republicans stand around their Congressional chambers apparently oblivious to the evil that vomits forth from this Kikuyu White Hut. They are guilty simply due to their inactivity to lead America out of this putrid swamp.

According the the evil Democrats and the fat cats that run the Republicrat Party, the religious right are the whack jobs.

Show me the way to the next whiskey bar… we are doomed.

It’s hard to believe that western culture has sunk so quickly. I am remembering when Rob and Laura could not share a bed on The Dick Van Dyke Show. It hasn’t been all that long - such a plummet.

Amazing how the left mocks and rebels against God, yet produces all of the evidence of what happens to society when they give Him the boot.

>> I sit and wonder how, after 30 years, our society could still consider rap to be an art form worthy of imitation or admiration, about how this decent young man can feel it is O.K. to grab his “package” in front of a class.

I could answer that, if I chose to; the answer is simple and easy to state.

However politically correct society (including even FR) can’t handle this truth.

So let’s all wring our hands and continue to ask each other “why”, instead of confronting the unpleasant truth head on.

When I first heard rap 20 years ago or more, I thought it was a passing fad and would die out quickly because it was stupid. It is now worse than stupid and more popular than ever. If that was what I listened to all day and night, I might behave like some “urban youth” do.

Besides being idiotic, vulgar and misogynistic, rap is not music and is just talking with some background noise.

The good, the true, and the beautiful have been honored and pursued since Plato first presented such ideas in the 4th century BC. Humankind has felt that this triad must not only be understood, but lived and actively pursued in order for the human race to continue evolving. If these values are ignored, humankind will stop evolving and begin devolving instead as is perhaps happening in society now as is reflected in rap.
Devolution...

The images, language, and rhythm in these songs show man reacting only to the gut and the groin;

higher thoughts of the heart, the mind, and the soul are completely disregarded.

The best description of rap "music" that I have ever heard.

The music that I grew up with (50s and 60s) exalted women and monogamous love.

I have a hard time believing that women really prefer being treated as sex toys or barnyard animals.

Haven’t we built society to this? Education has almost been legislated out of schools. There is legislation that has done much to destroy the family. Women are so eager to be equal to or greater than and hold the self higher than the family— everything for career and self glory?

An example of what I look at and wonder about is Cher and Chastity. Is part of Chastity’s problem a feeling that she could never live up to and achieve what her mother did? How much did Cher hold herself above her child? Wasn’t Cher’s fame, sexuality and her own greatness most important to her? In Cher’s recent tweets her rabid beliefs still shine through. Cher is back out there trying to compete as a 30 something, nobody seems to want to age gracefully.

I realize it’s not all kids but aren’t most kids raised more recently with public education ill equipped to write beautiful ‘art’? Is some of all this new ‘art’ in your face rebellion at the selfishness of what our society has been since maybe the 70’s or so?

I really believe if we started putting value back into the traditional family, much would begin to heal itself. We need God and family and without this, we will never have a healthy country or beautiful and thoughtful art. We will have increasing rebellion and ugliness unless we change. It’s communism, isn’t it? To destroy the family, religion and holding the ugly and meaningless up as art?

Astonishing.

I go so far back I remember when the song “Slow Boat to China” was condemned by the Archdiocese of Boston.

You are right——we are doomed’

Noticed an interesting phenomenon while listening to some of the “lighter” entertainment than rap, contemporary pop songs. You can’t really dance to current pop music, it isn’t a dance beat, it isn’t rock music, it’s a march. It sounds more appropriate to a marching band or a military drill. Anyone else noticed this?

OMG! The “Beats”! I taught in a predominately black school district for 10 years. That’s all those kids did was beat on their damn desks! Sometimes they didn’t even realize it, the blank stares. It was automatic. It was just mindless. Sometimes I would see them pick up a pencil sideways with their hand poised and give them a look or call their name and break the trance. They would say, “But I gots ta have mah beats!” I used to say, I’ll give you a beat you won’t forget, now knock it off and focus! I never allowed it, they would start and if they didn’t stop, there was a consequence. And then the middle schoolers would always want to show me how to beat. The beats - that drove me up a wall more than anything.

I find it difficult to understand why FR’s Admin Moderators arbitrarily chop up articles we post. The meaning is destroyed and many of us don’t have the time to go back to the link and read what a poster considers worthwhile.

Why not have ‘moderators’ post all the articles and then we’ll comment on their postings. That way they’ll have only articles that express content that is pleasing to them.

I have been a contributor both in posting and commenting on articles for a few years now. Additionally I contribute money to keep this site up and running. I view this mangling of articles to be dictatorial and unnecessary.
