Health Insurance Horror Stories over Obamacare Continue to Pour In

As the old adage says: when it rains, it pours. It seems that every day brings a new crop of horror stories over the incredibly rising costs of health insurance. The reason for the vast rise in price? Obamacare. With insurance companies forced to take on people with pre-existing conditions and basic insurance plans forced to carry more options (such as maternity leave and mental health care), prices are skyrocketing. More and more Americans are getting hit with sticker shock when they see the higher prices they're forced to pay.

One such case is a couple in Kentucky with two children. Andy and Amy Mangione paid a monthly premium of $333 for their health care plan, but now the price has risen to $965 per month. What makes matters worse is that their plan isn't a fancy Cadillac plan or even a silver level plan, but just a bare-bones plan for emergencies.

Even progressive liberals are becoming outraged. Tirge Caps, a left-wing diarist at the Daily Kos, wrote a blog railing against his increases. He notes that his premiums are going from $150 a month to $284 a month while his wife's is being raised from $168 to $302 a month. He writes, "We have a high deductible. We are generally healthy people who don't go to the doctor often. I barely ever go. The insurance is in case of a major catastrophe. Well, now, because of Obamacare, my wife's rate is gong to $302 per month and mine is jumping to $284. I am canceling insurance for us and I am not paying any fucking penalty. What the hell kind of reform is this? Oh, ok, if we qualify, we can get some government assistance. Great. So now I have to jump through another hoop to just chisel some of this off. And we don't qualify, anyway, so what's the point?"

Some more progressive liberals hit with higher premiums are Cindy Vinson and Tom Waschura from California. They are both big Obama supporters and were fans of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Imagine their surprise when Vinson found out that her rates were going to cost her $1800 more per year and Waschura would have to fork out $10,000 more per year as he has a family of four. I love the following quotes by these liberals. Waschura says, "I was laughing at Boehner -- until the mail came today. I really don't like the Republican tactics, but at least now I can understand why they are so pissed about this. When you take $10,000 out of my family's pocket each year, that's otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy."

Vinson, a retired school teacher, whines, "Of course, I want people to have health care, I just didn't realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally." Isn't this the essence of liberalism? They want free stuff for everybody but don't want to pick up the tab. If the money needed to pay the bills was being stolen from somebody else, they would be fine with it. However, now that its their pocket getting picked, it's outrageous! I know it's petty of me, but reading quotes like these from liberals just put a smile on my face. They cheered as Obama and his progressive cronies began to drag down America, and now they have to sit in the same muck that we do. I hope they like the taste of the bitter medicine they forced down the country's throat.

One quick example of what's waiting for us when Obamacare really gets going. In the UK, a National Health Service (their equivalent of Obamacare) director died after her operation was cancelled four times. Margaret Hutchon, a non-executive member of the Board of Directors for the Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust and a former mayor, needed follow-up stomach surgery. However, her surgery was postponed four times for a period totaling nine months. This happened at the very same hospital that she was a director at! Socialized medicine doesn't lift up the masses; it just buries them.

The point is, genius, that you don't need the insurance, so he's going to take your money and give it somebody else...and then take credit for it.

The term "liberal" means "liberal with other people's money" in the end.

it's the only reason these dopes voted for it; they thought the rich would be paying for their tummy tucks..

but just a bare-bones plan for emergencies.

I thought Obamacare made these types of policies illegal, and the minimum available was the "bronze" coverage. Many companies have eliminated healthcare for employees because they offered a "bare-bones plan for emergencies" which is not allowed for 2014.

There’s really only one solution: replace all the doctors and nurses with illegal aliens. Have them start prescribing sugar pills and saline solutions. When someone dies because no one knows what the hell they’re doing and can’t speak English anyway, call it “natural causes”. When someone needs surgery, have them take a number and wait until for one reason or another it’s no longer needed.

“The rich” didn’t get that way by voluntarily surrendering all their liquid assets to be reassigned as the “wise” believe to be appropriate. And for sure, they won’t remain “the rich” for long if they agree to such a distribution of assets.

A fool and his money - but you know how that goes.

Makes one wonder how a fool ever gets possession of money in the first place.

I have access to some private exchanges via USAA and my professional organization. I have noticed that if I change the date for the start of coverage from 1/1/2014 to 12/31/2013 or earlier, I can get lower rates on based on the plans available prior to the end of 2013.

The health care underwriter for my professional organization will be discontinuing all group health insurance at the end of this year. As I normally do, I pay up my health insurance at the beginning of the year, and usually overpay enough to spill over into January of the next year. I do this, because I don't want to have to worry every month about whether my check got received. (I actually had a situation once where they didn't correctly credit my account for a payment, and I needed to make a payment immediately to avoid having my policy canceled. Fortunately my bank records showed that I had made the payment.) I'm going to call my insurance company tomorrow and ask if I can get my policy start date for sometime in 2013 and be able to get a policy in force before the Obamacare mandates start. I'm hoping that this will allow me to to continue after January 1, 2014 with a policy that doesn't have to comply with the Obamacare mandates. Hopefully if I make the start date 12/31/2013, I can take advantage of the fact that I have already exceeded my annual deductible for this year and still have a policy next year that doesn't have all the Obamacare mandates on it.

I wish I felt the same. To me, it’s like having told someone that their actions would burn down my house, and insisting and insisting, and proving it to them and arguing high and arguing low and pleading and cajoling and screaming and yelling, they finally get the idea that their actions would burn down my house. So I get to be right and my house is burned down. Not very satisfying, I’m afraid.

it’s all part of the plan. The exchanges where designed NOT to work.

Single payer is going to be the outcome.

Thanks Roberts/McConnell/Bonehead.. With out your help Obama’s plan could not have come true.

Now. GFY all 3 of you.

That’s my point, I don’t think they have any “bare bones” plans, by law they have to be full featured. Abortions, birth control, pre-existing conditions, no dollar limits on coverage, yadda yadda.

This is open enrollment time for all insurance companies, that is why this is coming to the forefront now! The reason for giving business a delay was
due the elections, unfortunately a lot of businesses had already received
the increases from the insurance companies!
