Recent headline on an education site sums up the story: “The majority of public supports Common Core, but opposition is growing.”
Another ed site announced, with a map: “Breaking News: 20 States' Pending Legislation...to Reject or Limit Common Core."
Common Core Curriculum, steamrolled across the country several years ago and adopted by almost 45 states, may be faltering. Why do so many people consider this wonderful news? Here are 8 good reasons:
1) Common Core represents a federal takeover of education. This is a dream that progressives and liberals have pursued for a century. States and communities have traditionally been smart enough to resist this centralization of power. Education should remain a local concern. That is the only way the country will have diversity and choice.
2) Common Core was promoted in an unscrupulous way. The Obama Administration basically offered bribes to the individual states if they would cave. These bribes were called “Race to the Top” grants. In tight economic times, the states were seduced, some of them with irresponsible speed.
3) Common Core was sold aggressively to the public but many of the ideas were not field-tested nor proven to work. Little was explained in depth. Parents do not understand the degree to which a federally-mandated, one-size-fits-all approach would descend upon the country. It won’t be pretty.
4) Common Core has been developed by the same “experts” who have made a mediocre mess of public schools for more than 75 years. There is no reason to believe these incompetent people can operate at a higher level or want to. Indeed, many of the worst theories and methods used for decades have been cycled forward into Common Core.

Not true. The feds took over indoctrinatio . . . . er, "education" decades ago with the creation of the Dept. of Education and, later, Bush 43's "No Child Left Behind" act that he got his good friend Teddy Chappaquiddick to write (reaching across the aisle). And, upon completing the sabotage of education with NCLB, Teddy immediately turned around and stabbed his good friend George Bush, 43, in the back.
Lesson to political "uniters" like Bush - No good deed goes unpunished. Dems today are the muslims of America and their sole goal is to destroy Republicans (conservatives) who are the Israel of America. When you understand that analogy, you'll understand why conservatives are literally in the fight for our lives.

CC is being used in the Catholic parochial schools in the KCK Archdiocese! It’s such an obviously ludicrous program: I can’t believe any one who has spent any time teaching would allow this *** in our classrooms.
The people who backed Common Core, brought it into existence, proposed it curriculum are all leftists. What could go wrong? By design, it is t bring ALL students to the same values and educational levels. We know what that means. Indoctrination into leftist ideology so that ALL graduates will vote the same, believe the same things...etc. IF there was ever a time to home-school, it is NOW!
Homeschool? Oh really?
What do you do when you can’t homeschool (both parents work) and Common Core is mandated by both the State and Federal governments even in the private school your child attends?
What is it with you people?

Public ‘education’ today is child abuse.
I can’t for the life of me figure out what this article has to do with the Weather Underground. My understanding is that the Weather Underground reports the weather, i.e. temperature, humdity, etc. Anyhow that’s what comes up on my computer. Am I missing something? Just wondering.
What we’ve done is put our kids in a catholic school. We’ve spoken to the teachers and principal about our concerns. While they will implement common core to keep up with state/fed requirements, they will work around it and teach the ‘old fashion’ way as well. Their reading will not be limited or indoctrinate-focused. At this point in time, it is our best option. And being there for them through their homework and reading.
What’s new. The more the radical left is exposed, the faster it collapses. That’s why they have to HIDE THE DECLINE from the public about their ineptitude.
That’s exactly where we are.
I was extremely disappointed to see our Catholic school forced to abide by Common Core.
The only differences I see now between the Catholic school and public school are:
- religious and disciplinary instruction
- parents have to pay, which usually means the children and parents are more focused on education
But, with Common Core, it is very easy for teacher, student, and parent performance to slip.
Private schools have lost their sovereignty. We can’t complain anymore about the public school indoctrination.
Teachers and administrators have no control over CC at our private school. They are mandated by the state to use it.
In order to homeschool our children, we moved to a lower cost of living state that was also more homeschool friendly. My wife retired from corporate life almost 20 years ago. We drive old cars, live in a smallish house, and don't vacation in Europe.
Where there's a will there's a way.
The "Weather Underground" was once a band of domestic terrorists [Bill Ayres was one of them]. This isn't about the weather site.
Most of those arguments are disingenuous.
We’re already in a homeschool friendly state with a fair cost of living.
What would you have done if your wife would not have retired? If your spouse wouldn’t commit to homeschool, would you have divorced her?
What would you have done if your wife would not accept a lower standard of living to allow you or her to homeschool? Would you have divorced her?
To argue that you made a wise choice by marrying someone who would commit to homeschooling is also disingenuous, so I don’t want to see that response. You cannot predict what your spouse will do no matter what has been agreed upon in the beginning.
