Ubuntu 12.04 is still the “stable” version to be supported until 2017 Correct. Precise Pangolin is the latest LTS release.
Dug back through my cds, it looks like 12.10 was the Ubuntu that I looked at. Mint is basically Ubuntu with a different desktop (they call it 'Cinnamon' instead of 'Unity'.. big whoop.) Mint is now at version 15 or so, not sure which Ubuntu version is their base..
Like I said, I noted only minor differences between them so it was more 'grab what's on top' as opposed to a 'real' side/side comparison before install.
Accomplished the main purpose of having a fall-back box in case the windoze box bricks...

When it comes to cookbooks, my bible is Better Homes and Gardens (the red plaid one). My Mom had one, and when I was thrown out on my own, it was the first book I bought (even before PJ O’Rourke’s “Give War a Chance!”).

Don’t have any hard cider here,Haven't had any easy access to that commodity since my Grandfather died...
Each fall he would "put up" a barrel of cider in his basement. What did not get consumed at the first fermenting became the source of our vinegar the next year... ;-)
