GunsNFreedom.com is reporting an astonishing statement made by Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy.
McCarthy is angry that Illinois has joined the other 49 states in the union that have authorized some level of concealed carry. In an recorded interview McCarthy issues a not so thinly-veiled threat that under his leadership, Chicago Police will shoot concealed carriers:
You put more guns on the street expect more shootings, McCarthy said. I dont care if theyre licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So Ill train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and were going to have tragedies as a result of that. Im telling you right up front.
McCarthy doesn’t just seem to think it may happen; he almost seems to look look forward to it with some sort of vindictive wrath. He asserts that only his police are responsible enough to carry handguns, an assertion that flies in the face of the fact that at least one study shows that police officers are five times more likely to shoot the wrong person than concealed carriers.
A key fact that McCarthy glosses over in claiming that police are so much better trained than the average concealed carrier, is that concealed carriers are not training to be police officers.
Concealed carriers do not learn radio procedures and codes, arrest procedures, the various laws and ordinances, or various other aspects of police work that take up most of the time McCarthy uses to assert his officers are somehow superior when it comes to firearms use.
The sad, simple fact of the matter is that CPD officers rarely train with their firearms. Most fire their weapons only during during the mandatory annual qualification, which lasts just one hour. There are Girl Scout troops with more frequent range time than the Chicago PD.
In most cities, a police superintendent threatening his city’s most law-abiding citizens with bloodshed would result in a groundswell of calls for his ouster or resignation. That outcome is unlikely in Chicago. Citizens are too busy going to funerals of the more than 250 citizens murdered so far this year under McCarthy’s watch in his “gun free” city.
Chicago PD declares open season on CCW holders. One more reason to NOT get a CCW permit, otherwise the CPD may just SWAT you for daring to defy their self imposed decree.
I don’t know about most of LEO’s out there, but jackasses like this guy are putting LEO’s out there serious danger as being just as much of a threat as the criminals.
You ever go to a gun range on “LEO appreciation” days? Ever talked to or shot with LEOs? I have LEO friends in local sheriff, city PD, and highway patrol, and aside from some of the more dedicated marksman, most of them couldn’t hit the ten ring at ten feet.
There are notable exceptions. Even my shooting buddies, two of whom are LEOs, note the severe lack of proper gun regulation in newer cops. Most of the beat cops anymore are yahoos with badges. SWAT excepted, I wouldn’t trust my life to a cop since I’ve outshot most of them in competition.
Yeah, I don't think what he actually said and the title of the article imply the same thing. If you turn toward a cop *or* a conceal carry individual with a gun in your hand on the street, you should expect the same result. The assumption here being you "turn toward" and aim or draw your weapon.
Let me get this straight.
Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy is declaring the intent to the premeditated murder of law abiding citizens.
Chicago citizens should not carry identification other than a lanyard around your neck.
Attempting to retreive your wallet/ID will make you DEAD.
How about they go after the gang bangers.
Congrats! The country needs more good people. Thank you and Godspeed.
Well capitalism...that explains it.
Thanks for the info.
Cops are NOT your friend ping!
Absolutely - that’s been my experience!
I’m in total agreement with you.
You’re probably right. Just like Dear Leader!
Wow, great question!
I was friends with the former police officer who was the chief of Warner Bros. security for some time. He echoed the same numskull idea that somehow American who are law abiding, exercising their God given rights to defend themselves, will make us all in more danger. Stupid and not factual.
I’m sure they’re just waiting for the right time to chime in. After all, it’s only one or two bad apples like the pinhead who made that statement, right?
That’s been my experience too!
Will the cop ranks be thinned by cops going to jail for murder?
If not, we have a two tiered system. Masters and slaves.
>>Yeah, I don’t think what he actually said and the title of the article imply the same thing.<<
Many, many FReepers are proud to be known as low information voters. They accomplish this by refusing to read the article before commenting. Makes you proud of them, huh?
there will be no wave.
When the Interstate was built the Federal Government gave the option to make it freeway and get 50% fed grants or toll road and get 10% fed grants and fund the 90% with tolls. Once the construction costs are retired the toll money must by law be expended for toll road maintenance, snow removal, and wages and salaries for the work crews and the HIGHWAY COMMISIONERS. If there is any toll money left after expenses, the per mile tolls are to be reduced to make the system "revenue neutral". That happened once that I know of and it only lasted a few months before they determined a need for more Commissioners!
Illinois does a great job of snow removal every winter, two flakes and they are out with the plows and salt trucks. Best winter driving in the mid west. About the only thing I like about Chicago.

GtG
