Well, duh. I drive a Mercedes G-Class.
It locks automatically. Must be Nazi DNA in it.
That’s a good reminder. I have an old friend who was literally going down that road about 30 years ago. The thug(s) left her behind the wheel and were directing her towards a remote area. She ended up doing a slow speed head on collision, jumping out, and screaming for help. It ended up working out relatively OK, as it was likely going to end up as you describe.
Not me.
There’s no longer anything in it worth stealing.

‘My new Ford Focus makes no beeps.’
Well bless the Ford Focus!
I also do those things you describe, to make sure the doors are locked. Altho I don’t often pull the door handle.
In addition to listening for the locking sound, the interior light goes off, so I also have a visual!
Full disclosure: my mate-thru-life NEVer uses the auto key fob - locks and unlocks the doors the old fashioned way! Makes me nuts!
I’m doing a white paper on this very subject .....:o)
Further explanation, I do it because I'm still not familiar with the way the doors lock.
After my post, I went out to my garage and experimented with the keyfob. I discovered that when I exit my car and hit the lock button on the keyfob (that was a simple explanation on my part wasn't it) all the locks are secure.
When I return to the car and hit the unlock button, ONLY the drivers side door is unlocked. If I wish to unlock ALL the doors, I have to push the unlock buttom TWICE. (that instruction was vague and several pages into the locking section of the manual)
As for the rear hatchback, there is another button on the keyfob that I have to push twice. (Yet another page in the instructional manual).
With that being said, I think I've finally got the locking system figured out.
NOW, for the voice sync system. I just applied to MIT and hopefully will begin classes in the fall.........By the end of my three year lease, I should have the Voice Sync figured out.......
RACIST!
;-P
I want a copy, needless to say.
Good advice!
The car that the doors locked upon ignition was a 1990’s Era Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. I remember well the day I left the engine running and got out knowing better, but I wasn’t thinking that day, and shut the door. As soon as I did I heard the “click” before I could react. Of course as soon as the doors locked it started pouring down rain, and the only other person that had a key told me “too bad” cause they weren’t about to drive 50 miles in the middle of a storm. It was probably a defect, but at the time, I just thought that’s how they were supposed to work.
I was driving a 90’s Era Ford Tempo, with the automatic seat belt nuisance thingy, when the guy tried to jack me.
