The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson,a conservative, made some contentious statements on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Thursday. In addition to lambasting Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for inserting race into Trayvon Martin’s death and George Zimmerman’s subsequent trial, he called the 17-year-old shooting victim a “thug.” Rev. The exchange began with Peterson claiming that race played no role in the highly-publicized tragedy.
“This case was not about race at all and what happened – you have the race-hustlers and poverty pimps like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and others who turned it into a race issue in order to gain power and wealth,” he charged.
Peterson also targeted President Barack Obama, calling his past comment about Martin (“You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon”) “insane.”
These statements, he said, were intended to “incite the anger of black Americans and others.”
“If the situation that happened with Trayvin and George had been the same, yes … I imagine that the same outcome would have been the same,” he said. “George Zimmerman would have done whatever it took to protect himself. It didn’t matter to George Zimmerman the color of the man.”
The interview became contentious when Peterson proclaimed that “Trayvon Martin was a thug.” Morgan fervently disagreed and took exception to the fact that the faith leader said that everyone, including the television host and Martin’s parents, knew this assertion to be true.

Where I heard hate, evil, deceit and rage in the communist agenda of obama’s words (divide and conquer)... foxnews and the weekend poofter crew were praising him and anointing the evil one. We have no friends in the old media... none... not even fox.
I agree. Reverend Peterson did not make a sufficiently compelling case for me. I have heard him speak before and he struggles with thoroughness and sufficient level of detail.

Meanwhile, there’s another trial going on right now about an Islamic terrorist who murdered more than a dozen people on a U.S. army base. Where’s all the media hype and blogosphere controversy about that? And why hasn’t Obama said one single word about it?
The poor man was ambushed. Piers is still smarting from the Robert Zimmerman Jr. trouncing, so he wheels in an easy mark. But Piers is such a lightweight he needed to triple team the old guy.

You are right on rebuildus. I couldn’t believe how perfectly on point he was. JEsse is a man of God and you hear the truth shout out from him. He may not put a fancy intellectual spin on it, or angry, cursing spin, but its the truth with a zinger.

HG is the self-appointed blog cop. I view him like I would my crazy uncle - love him, and smile and nod my head when he gets worked up over a “blog pimp” or some such. Ignore his attitude, and take the comments as “friendly advice” and keep trying your best at posting interesting and relevant things.

I looked that up because i wasn't sure i understood it properly. I like it. I often think of that when i read some of the crtics on Free Republic. Those that criticize Jesse, have no idea what it takes to speak up like he does...

I want more depth, more level of detail, a more thorough development of the case made and I’m the shallow one? Whatever...
Jesse is only given so much time to answer and to get his points in. That is why I admire him so much for what he DID get in. He reminded people that the court wouldn’t allow the truth about Martins past...the marijuana, record, etc. I have seen no one else remind us of that. I loved that he said what we all know which is Martins parents, Piers and everyone know that travon was a thug. Anyway,Jesse has worked hard to get to the point to be invited to be on that kind of show. People are so quick to criticize, here on free republic. But you get a public platform and then come back and criticize...
