[I read this originally on USA Today, but we can't link to that, so I found this. Google it yourself for the whole story.]

So, let's see about those 2016 nominees:

1. Chris Christie
2. Marco Rubio
3. Paul Ryan

Maybe we'll get a real conservative after all if each of the GOPe favorites take themselves out of the running one by one.

This is INSANE. The main reason for supporting the traditional definition of marriage is the well-being of children. So Ryan now wants to keep the marriage definition but send the kids off to be raised by same-sex partners? Ridiculous.

Be opposed to same sex marriage but allow little innocents being adopted by them? Doesn’t make any sense.

Paul has become enlightened in Washington DC. Never mind the fact that research shows kids with same sex parents have trouble that have one of each flavor don’t have. The enlightenment has bloomed in America and you damn well need to get with the program.

No wonder liberal Romney chose him.

Ryan’s focus on cutting safety nets and entitlements helped derail Romney’s election. (A good thing).

But Ryan also costs us several seats in the legislative branch (A bad thing.)

This was the perfect storm. I don’t think we could have picked two candidates that could have done us more harm if the democrats were picking our candidates for us.

Seems to me that conservatives need to stop worshiping heroes and look for someone solid. All 3 you list were once the next great conservative hope and all have been disappointments.

Sounds good to me. Let's just hope that conservative's memories are longer than liberal zombies' are.

If he really believes this to be a positive for children, he and I have to depart ways. It was fun while it lasted Paulie.

On same-sex marriage, he says he’s still opposed.

Sooooooo give him a few months and he'll "come around" on that as well, what?

I knew Paul Ryan was a fraud back when his big plan with Mittens was to “grow” us out of debt through unrealistic projections without actually cutting significant spending.

There needs to be more information offered on this. Should children be ALLOWED to be adopted by homosexual couples, or should the state MANDATE that adoption agencies give them equal billing? BIG difference.

Who exactly? Isn't it kind of obvious at this point that even most actual conservatives aren't going to chose to fight over these homo issues? I mean, they'll say the right things but they aren't actually going to fight on this ground. They view it as loser at this point. You don't see, for example, really any conservatives fighting to re-instate Don't Ask Don't Tell. Just 10 years ago it would have been unthinkable to allow open gays in the military, now even traditional conservatives chalk it up to another loss in the culture war.

I think you are going to see the Republican Party, and yes, many solid fiscal conservatives too, largely abandon the social issues and move in a more libertarian(ish) direction. I suspect they've begun to believe that social conservatism will soon lose more votes than it gains.
