Who "needs" 30 round Magazines?

Looking at the pics coming in from the Boston bomber manhunt I see all these LEOs bristling with high-capacity-mag, “assault weapon” looking rifles (wonder how many are full-auto?), bad-ass shotguns, scary black pistols. For two guys … well, one now. (None now. Good show LEOs.)

Thing is, I don’t begrudge the city of Boston a single round. The LEOs, God bless ‘em, aren’t taking any chances. But then why should you? Why should you be held to 7 rounds? Or 10. Or any arbitrary number.

Who needs 30-round mags?

“…legions of heavily armed police” felt like they needed them … for two guys. Then one — one guy.

If precaution advises that many trained officers with all that firepower to prepare to take out two baddies — because who knows how heavily armed they are or what they might do — how can we expect a lone homeowner to defend herself against similar unknown threats with seven rounds? Mayor Bloomberg, Governor O’Malley, et al., please, your thoughts?

TTAGers, here’s hoping you never need even one and always have access to a whole lot more.

Spot on about the 1800s. Cannons were found in civilian hands from river keel boats to private forts and trading posts. In the 1870s drovers on a trail drive were better armed than a platoon of cavalry.

I do.

My government is facilitating the ability of deadly Islamic terrorists to have free run in my country while at the same time it wages war against its own law abiding citizens.

I need 30 round magazines.

When someone asks how many rounds I need, I tell them I need one more round than whoever is shooting at me. Whatever it takes to protect myself. We can’t count on the criminal to follow the rules when it comes to gun laws.

They say the 2nd amendment is the last defense against tyranny.......no way with the firearms restrictions on citizens.

Why do Harry and Nancy plus the rest of that heard of buffoons need to be driven around in a two ton SUV? Couldn’t they get from point A to point B just as easily in a in a Cooper mini?

The police need assault weapons & 30-round clips magazines because they're at war.

I'll let you figure out who they're at war with....

It should be my right as a law abiding citizen to buy and own weaponry that is as great as any threat I may face.

Who "needs" 30 round magazines? Who cares? It is called the Bill of Rights not the Bill of Needs.

The Bill of Rights protects us from our Government infringing upon our inalienable rights. Note, it does not grant us rights, it protects us from the government trying to take away rights we just have, period.

Nowhere in the Bill of Rights does it say or imply in any way that these rights are predicated on demonstrated or perceived need.

No-one questions nor attacks our 1st Amendment rights like they do our 2nd Amendment rights. No-one is trying to limit Facebook accounts to a maximum of 10 friends. No-one is trying to license Twitter accounts. No-one thinks you need a permit to carry a Bible, Torah, or Quran in public. The notion that we should accept similar restrictions upon our 2nd Amendment rights is equally absurd.

Not jumping down your throat or anything. But I think it is vitally important that we do not ever let the would-be gun grabbers try to frame the debate in terms of a need for this or that particular firearm, feature, or ammunition. I may or may not need any of those things, but what I absolutely, no-compromise need is the freedom to make that choice and own it. The moment we let anyone decide the extent of our 2nd Amendment rights based on need, they will decide we no-longer "need" firearms, period. A warning to any of you lib-lurkers out there reading that and thinking that is a good idea. The day you do that is the day CWII starts.

The brothers should have fled to NY! Police there are only allowed seven rounds in their 30 round magazines.

(snark)

Who "needs" 30 round Magazines?

A good example would be anyone in Watertown, MA, who had to "shelter in place" in their homes durng the past couple of days.
