According to the solicitation (HSFLAR-13-Q-00019), DHS is ordering ammunition in .45 long Colts, .45 ACP, .22LR, 30-30, 12 gauge shotgun shells, 410 gauge shotgun shells, .357, and 7.69x39mm. That’s quite a spread for DHS.

Not necessarily. The AK74, RPK74, and variants use the 5.45x39.
I’m wondering if they are buying the 7.62x39mm because it is produced locally and using that new UN treaty to make sure no more 5.45x39mm gets in the country.

No the SKS uses the same round as the AK-47, the 7.62x39. Some order clerk made a typo, that's all.

I’m really not much of a gun guy but these were so cheap couldn’t pass them up.
We have these 3 Makarovs and a pump shotgun and an old Mosin Nagant that my best friend gave me years ago. Only one I know well is the old antique Mosin.

I realized it as soon as I got home, but they were closed. Called on the opening minute the next day and nothing had been found or turned in.....

I was at a local FFL getting some CTC Red Laser Grips fitted to 2 Kimber 1911 .45s yesterday, and all the ammo cases of 7.62x51/.308 and .45 were Prvi Partizan from Serbia. He said he can’t get US-made ammo very readily, anymore. $999/1,000-rnds. Wow.
So glad I kept stocking-up since 2001 and have a formidable inventory, now, for 7 calibers and 1 ga.
I guess he meant 7.62. Interesting. That ammo is used for AKs, SKSs, and Ruger mini30s, among others. Till now DHS has been buying pistol ammo. Now they are depleting supply of a very popular rifle ammo. Neat
way to disarm citizens.
Maybe it’s time for ammo manufacturers to refuse to sell to the government. Or at least refuse to sell anything outside of military contract ammo. There is NO reason for DHS to be buying ammo in any quantity.

I have been saying that for a while. That said, good luck implementing any seizure activity en masse before the common man finds out and either rebels or hides his assets. Just based on numerical data they cannot perform any seizure that can be completed in a timely manner.
Alliant Techsystems (ATK) makes a bunch - Federal, CCI and others, plus they run the Lake City ammo plant.
Olin (OLN) makes Winchester ammo, but not guns.
Neither one is a pure-play on ammo tho’ - not by a long shot...
Mosins are good guns. They go boom every time you pull the trigger. They are also surprisingly light and handy for their size. Until recently they were sadly underrated in the west. These days they are getting the appreciation they deserve. Get the ammo while you can, though.
Seems pretty stupid considering other calibers with near identical ballistics and terminal velocity would perform the same against armor. Also, body armor is tested by the manufacturer to meet specific guidelines and categorized according to level of protection already.
The FBI has done extensive testing of every caliber imaginable and that data alone should be enough to determine the reliability of body armor.
Those are pretty nice little pistols. They are worth about $250 at this point.

They were originally in 9X18 Makarov, but many were converted to 380 ACP (9X17) for importation.
No? Have you never heard of training programs? High school outreach? Boy scout camps?
I admit, it is hard to associate Boy Scout programs and high school rifle practice with the Obama administration, but the DHS is enormous and complex. Maybe they are for some silenced dog killer Ruger pistols.
When will we learn, it is very dangerous to place lesbians in charge of any government agency and certainly it is insane to place them in charge of a government agency with weapons.
