In the event that the 'bellicose rhetoric' of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un turns into something more serious, the opening hours of conflict could be 'pretty ugly,' defense analysts warn.
Veteran North Korea watchers, citing what they see as increasingly troubling signs coming from the dictatorial regime, are voicing concerns that its new young leader, Kim Jong-un, could do something ill-advised, even start a war.
On Friday North Korea renewed what the U.S. has condemned as its bellicose rhetoric, saying Kim had ordered the nations missile forces to prepare to strike the United States and South Korea.
In response to the prospect of North Korea following through on this and other marginally less dire threats, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Thursday that the US military will unequivocally defend, and [is] unequivocally committed to the alliance with, South Korea.
But if hostilities were in fact to erupt, how might they play out?
Some former US Special Operations Forces and longtime Korea defense analysts have their own thoughts on what an unequivocal US military response could look like, including how US troops would be deployed in the event of a lethal first strike on US and allied military forces by North Korea precisely the sort of move Mr. Kim has been threatening to make.
What would such a first North Korean move resemble? It might involve small-scale infiltrations using mini-submarines, assassination attempts.....

Indeed, more than has been known before as for the rhetoric, But S. Korea has definitely determined if the North hits them they will not let it slide as before, they will return in kind.
Then when you have China/Russia..Japan and the Island issue with China, which is also serious.... thrown into this fray , it wouldn't take much of a match to fire this up..... the longer it continues at the pace the “communication” is currently the more chance someone could do something foolish and set this off.
I for one take what's happening serious, especially when you consider all the players and their vested interest on the International scale....the world nations on a whole are pretty much shifting about in one way or another.
As for Kim Un...he's only the figurehead doing the same things his daddy did...walking around pointing at things and trying to look important. The only time I have ever seen him actively engaged is when they set up his play ground, and of course he rode one of the rides. Otherwise he simply points.
No doubt the old big boys, over Kim, are not happy campers now the UN cut off all their luxuries.
Exactly what the article says..they could do a lot of damage in one week.
When I was there (1978-79 and 1981-82) we “joked” that we were there to keep the ROKs from going North. Many of the ROKA officers I served alongside were veterans of the Vietnam war, whereas the North Koreans haven’t fought since 1953.
“Angry jerkwads who secretly wish for a calamity so the bad people will get whats coming to them. Whats yours?”
Ok, that makes sense. Doesn’t apply to the people on this site - just the kooks on TV.
Thanks.
....”Maybe its time to pack up and git, and let the ROKs have at it.”.....
I understand Representative meetings next week ,among interested parties, in Asia to possibly determine it’s time to move forward with connecting the North and South..and be done with it.
I do wonder about N.Korea’s military strength....I hear the soldiers would likely lay down their arms if war were to start....they’ve already had their own soldiers take out their own just to run over the border.
At issue would be as in the past...where would China be in the fray? It’s said we owe them 3 trillion, but as I see it that debt could be used as leverage.. if they don’t play our game we won’t pay.
Quite right. And the Chinese are only interested in one thing: business. The idea of the Norks kicking their dish is gonna be the end. With the exception of the EU, the US is China’s largest trading partner. And after Hong Kong and ASEAN, it’s Japan and South Korea. The Chinese simply won’t let Kim kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. The best part about the Chinese is they don’t have to put up with a bunch of PR bullshit - when they pull the plug, it’s over.
NOTHING......
I know a retired Army Ranger, of more recent vintage, who told me the same thing, except he wasn’t joking. Thanks for your service, Vet.
Good point. I don’t think the Chicoms want us, or the ROK’s on their border, and I don’t think they want to suffer on account of Kim & Co. A lot of bargaining room, to be sure !
Problem is you sounded just like the kooks on TV.
I’ve got you people so pegged it’s not even funny.
Because it takes balls to start it that way. You see anyone in charge with balls?
China can destroy our economy with the stroke of a pen. They are the only thing propping up our phony economy by trading their goods to us for worthless dollars. In this sense they own us at least for now and will have a very large say in what happens with NK.
Damn. That’s a hell of a scary way to connect all the dots. Too bad it isn’t just a bad scifi novel.
I’ve never been to Korea, but have a lot of Asian experience: Philippines, Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam when I was a much younger man. I’ve always been amused at looking at these KORCOM generals with their Iranian police type hats, and a chestful of medals. They’re some real geezers. Those ribbons they’re wearing have to be 60 years old. They must be awarded medals for eating babies and skinning rats.
My thinking is China is vulnerable, too. If the house of cards collapses, they are in for a big fall. I am reminded of the saying “If you owe the bank thousands, they own you. If you owe the bank millions, you own them” Thanks.
Harvest the top 4-6 inches and make juice.
Add a different fruit like blackberry, apricot, pear or apple to cut the oily taste.
You need a juicer designed for wheat grass so it doesn't destroy the nutrients.
“Problem is you sounded just like the kooks on TV.”
And you sound just like the snide liberals that are convinced that NOTHING bad will ever happen to them, and that government will always be there.
Good luck begging...
It ain’t just liberals that doubt your SHTF fantasies.
Upon launch, N Korea's missles are detonated over N Korea by US space-based particle beams. Then, US submarines launch countless missles into N Korea. After that, we see if there's any Seinfeld reruns on (and there probably are).
Any questions?
