North Korea: What happens if Kim Jong-un acts on his threats?
Yahoo! News / The Christian Science Monitor ^ | March 29, 2013 | Anna Mulrine

In the event that the 'bellicose rhetoric' of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un turns into something more serious, the opening hours of conflict could be 'pretty ugly,' defense analysts warn.

Veteran North Korea watchers, citing what they see as increasingly troubling signs coming from the dictatorial regime, are voicing concerns that its new young leader, Kim Jong-un, could do something ill-advised, even start a war.

On Friday North Korea renewed what the U.S. has condemned as its “bellicose rhetoric,” saying Kim had ordered the nation’s missile forces to prepare to strike the United States and South Korea.

In response to the prospect of North Korea following through on this and other marginally less dire threats, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Thursday that the US military “will unequivocally defend, and [is] unequivocally committed to the alliance with, South Korea.”

But if hostilities were in fact to erupt, how might they play out?

Some former US Special Operations Forces and longtime Korea defense analysts have their own thoughts on what an “unequivocal” US military response could look like, including how US troops would be deployed in the event of a lethal first strike on US and allied military forces by North Korea – precisely the sort of move Mr. Kim has been threatening to make.

What would such a first North Korean move resemble? It might involve small-scale infiltrations using mini-submarines, assassination attempts.....

Those who prepped have a chance of waiting out the panic buying, the shortages, and the violence. Those who laughed at us are raped and killed.

I believe in prudent measures - I take care of my family. But "prepping" has become a cultish fantasy for some where they somehow mistakenly believe they will not suffer disaster and judgement.

The only "prepping" that ultimately matters is: Have you given your heart and life over to Jesus Christ to be saved?

"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

John 11: 25-26

If you have not given your heart to Christ, there is no better time than now.

“Are you the one fantasizing about using all your prep while people that haven’t “prepped” get raped and murdered?”

Fantasizing. I see why keep losing elections. Were the Koreans “fantasizing” during the LA riots when they were shooting away from rooftops, while the police we told to stand back? I was there. It went on for 3 days, and all the police would say was that they were “mobilizing”.

It’s not fantasy - REAL PEOPLE were get raped and murdered when society breaks down. We also have a media, community leaders, and a political party that has done EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to drive up the hatred level to the point where street warfare is almost assured once the supplies run out.

Yea, you’re welcome to believe that Americans, of all types, will behave like North Koreans, and quietly starve to death when the trucks stop rolling and LAUGH at those of us who believe otherwise, but judgment day will come to this country, if for nothing else, due to our debt. And then you WILL see who is right.

So it’s one or the other?

“Because the cold war isn’t over. We just stopped fighting it.”

Cool - I thought that I was the only one that understood it. As long as NKorea, Cuba, and China are threats to us it’s not over. As long as the Russians maintain their arsenal, they’re one dictator away from going RIGHT BACK to the way things were.

Unlike what the media and Ron Paul says, and WAY too many conservatives eat up, we STILL have interests overseas, and if those countries fall into enemy hands, the world will be a VERY LONELY place for us.

You said you’ll laugh while people are raped and murdered.

That’s disgusting, and it won’t matter one bit that you have prepped. It’s already evident to me that you have a big mouth, everyone in your town will be showing up at your doorstep once the SHTF. Good luck with that.

If an attack comes—it will be in next 24 hours—Easter Sunday. It will come with a number of commando raids, then air and rocket attacks, then troops, waves of them. To het the South Korean Capital. — There will be a masses leaving of South Korea.

.....”SK vs NK. It’s China/Russia/NK/(Possibly Iran) vs Japan/US/SK.”.....

I agree they are all players in this...and there are more as well, who have vested interest in the out-come of N.Korea ..however it goes.

But it is a very tricky situation and those parties are fully aware that any decisions made will affect the population there....and they too are a key player, but nobody knows how the populace will respond. They have no means of communicating apart from “underground” and those means are surely guarded.

Thanks for your reply. My observations are: China and Russia don’t want a failed N.Korea, nor a U.S. allied unified Korea on their border. Koreans hate The Japanese. China needs trade with S.Korea, Japan, and The U.S. My way of thinking is that the alliances mentioned are reactionary, and not permanent. I think if The U.S. pulls up stakes, and leaves, the players will sort things out, amongst themselves. Remember, in the same region, Siberia has a wealth of resources, and a small population, China has a huge population, and needs more resources. They don’t trust each other, and if The U.S. is no longer an issue, there won’t be much reason for them to remain allied. FReegards.

Agree with you....though again one shouldn't forget that however this plays out the “people” of N.Korea are also a player when and if things move further....how they will figure in is certainly unknown for the most part.

Also China and Russia, though cautious, are certainly cozying up tighter in order to accommodate one anothers need. I don't think they want that relationship disturbed...and they will certainly have a say in how this goes down. Just as they supported the recent restrictions on N.Korea, they could very well stop anything that comes before the UN concerning any warfare there. Still, the US is bound to assist S.Korea and Japan...so not sure they would have to consider the UN at all.....the whole situation is dicey to say the least.

I think a quick round of nuclear carpet-bombing would cure N-KO of all it’s “ILs”.

When I was in Korea just a few years ago, we were told that if war broke out, expect massive US, ROK, and civilian casualties in just the first hours of war.

That is because most of Seoul is within artillery range of the border, and NK has huge numbers of big guns. Their aircraft could be over target in minutes after the border crossing, though that would be suicidal as few would survive. As for nukes, no defense for a short range ballistic missile so armed.

The only person that has ever used a nuke as an act of war was a democrat president.

And by doing so probably saved a million lives.
