A recent study noted that the majority of people have enough food in their pantries to feed their household for about three days and that seemingly stable societies are really just nine meals from anarchy. With most of us dependent on just-in-time transportation systems to always be available, few ever consider the worst case scenario.
For tens of thousands of east coast residents that worst case scenario is now playing out in real-time. No longer are images of starving people waiting for government handouts restricted to just the third-world.
In the midst of crisis, once civilized societies will very rapidly descend into chaos when essential infrastructure systems collapse.
Though the National Guard was deployed before the storm even hit, there is simply no way for the government to coordinate a response requiring millions of servings of food, water and medical supplies
Many east coast residents who failed to evacuate or prepare reserve supplies ahead of the storm are being forced to fend for themselves.
Frustration and anger have taken hold, as residents have no means of acquiring food or gas and thousands of trucks across the region remain stuck in limbo

Preppers’ PING!!
Serious question. How does one defend one’s kitchen garden from such thugs?
12 gage 00 Buck works just fine.
I have been reading that Failure of Civility book and in it the authors suggest fasting for two days. I did it for 48 hours and ended it yesterday to see how my mind and body would be affected. My body was fine but I constantly thought about what kind of food would be good. I know it would be different if I had to carry a pack while walking through the woods but if I had to man a guard post or dig a trench I think I could manage it. Coincidentally my fast ended with my step-daughter getting her drivers license so we celebrated at a pizza joint buffet.
Doesn’t answer the question. HOW do you defend, 24/7, your garden with limited personnel to stand as sentry.?
So does my .50cal Beowulf w/ 335gr HPs. My Remys’ 870 Pump & 1187 AutoLoader eat 00 Buck like candy, too.
Put books around your garden? ./.Chris Rock quote
Prepare for carnage. It will be that way everywhere.
Don’t live near them.
You either know your nieghbors and have a pact to protect eachother’s property, or you live in a secluded area, or you take what you can and bug out. In a breakdown, being on your own in a suburban or urban setting will see anything you have of value taken by the mob or by the authorities.
And probably for a long while.
I’m sorta partial to my M1A.
One major problem with going without food for extended periods can be having to force yourself to start eating again, it can take a few hours or a day or so to force yourself to start eating,
If you take a bite of something and force yourself to keep doing that over a period of time, then your taste buds and hunger will eventually kick in, and then it’s johnny bar the door, because then your body wants to catch up and soon after you finish one decent meal, you want another.
Good advise, Sawdring.
I think every one of us patriots needs to view our immediate days as boot camp. It goes without saying that we need to kiss many, if not most, of our guilty comforts goodbye.
I don’t know that they’ll be after your veggies. Too much trouble and effort. They’ll be after your canned and hard assetts. This is where like-minded neighbors come into play.
These can be secured and protected.
You have a platoon of armed and trained individuals.
