Presidential Executive Orders Hoax
various | February 21, 2013

Posted on 02/21/2013 5:18:56 PM PST by EveningStar

Some explanation is necessary for this post. I first became aware of this hoax yesterday when no fewer than three people posted it on Facebook. I almost shared it, but then I decided to do a search and found the Snopes article. I learned that this began as an email prank. I knew that some folks would dismiss any article from Snopes. In fact, I too have questioned their objectivity. Therefore, I also searched for and found the Truth Or Fiction article. More importantly, I included the original sources for both articles.

I then began posting this at various sites and got some interesting reactions.

Several people got no further than reading the word "Snopes" before they dismissed the post.

At least one person questioned whose side I was on.

Some others pointed out that it wasn't the number of EOs but rather the damage they caused that was really important. While this is a good point for another topic, the point of this post is to warn conservatives against falling for a hoax - as I almost did.

This has been circulating around cyberspace for quite a while:

It's false information.

Both Snopes and Truth Or Fiction debunked this last year.

See The American Presidency Project for detailed and up to date information. Also see the National Archives.

Snopes is totally unreliable, and totally in the tank for Obama!

I find Snopes to be at 95% reliable. If it wasn’t, other bloggers would have had Snopes for lunch by now.

Sure. But there’s no reason to support an outright lie. Google the information yourself and see.

That’s why I included The American Presidency Project an National Archives links. The cold data is there. I’m sure there are other sources as well.

I've been using Snopes for years. Like this: get email--->check email at Snopes-->check Snopes on web.

Works every time.

The only reason you don’t like Snopes is it debunks a lot of wing-nuttery you desperately want to believe in.

The hoax is the total number of EOs attributed to each president in this graphic. The actual total numbers are far different.

Yeah, it says FDR had 11 EO’s when in actuality he had 3466.
