Shocking Numbers That Show The Media Is Lying To You About Unemployment In America
By Michael snyder
February 1st, 2013
Did you know that the percentage of the U.S. labor force that is employed has continually been falling since 2006 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics? Did you know that the increase in the number of Americans "not in the labor force" during Barack Obama's first four years in the White House was more than three times greater than the increase in the number of Americans "not in the labor force" during the entire decade of the 1980s? The mainstream media would have us believe that 157,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy in January. Based on that news, the Dow broke the 14,000 barrier for the first time since October 2007. But if you actually look at the "non-seasonally adjusted" numbers, the number of Americans with a job actually decreased by 1,446,000 between December and January. But nowhere in the mainstream media did you hear that the U.S. economy lost more than 1.4 million jobs between December and January. It is amazing the things that you can find out when you actually take the time to look at the hard numbers instead of just listening to the media spin. Back in 2007, more than 146 million Americans were employed. Today, only 141.6 million Americans are employed even though our population has grown steadily since then. When the government and the media tell you that we are in a "recovery" and that unemployment is lower than it was a couple of years ago, I encourage you to dig deeper. The truth is that even the government's own numbers tell us that the percentage of the U.S. labor force that is employed continues to fall and that the U.S. economy is heading into a recession. The Obama administration and the media have been lying to you about unemployment and about the true condition of our economy. After you see the numbers that I have compiled in this article, I think that you will agree with me.
First of all, let's take a look at the percentage of the civilian labor force that has been employed over the past several years. These numbers come directly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As you can see, this is a number that has been steadily falling since 2006...
2006: 63.1
2007: 63.0
2008: 62.2
2009: 59.3
2010: 58.5
2011: 58.4
In January, only 57.9 percent of the civilian labor force was employed.
Do the numbers above represent a positive trend or a negative trend?
Even a 2nd grader could answer that question.
So how in the world can the Obama administration and the mainstream media claim that the employment picture is getting better and that we are in a "recovery"?
But most Americans believe what they are told. It is almost as if we are in some kind of a "matrix" where reality is defined by the corporate-controlled propaganda that is relentlessly pumped into our brains.
The only way that the government has been able to show a declining unemployment rate is by dumping massive numbers of Americans into the "not in the labor force" category.
Just check out how the number of Americans "not in the labor force" has absolutely skyrocketed in recent years...
2006: 77,387,000
2007: 78,743,000
2008: 79,501,000
2009: 81,659,000
2010: 83,941,000
2011: 86,001,000
In January, there were supposedly 89,868,000 Americans that were at least 16 years of age that were not in the labor force.
That number has risen by more than 8 million since Barack Obama first entered the White House, and that is highly unusual, because the number of Americans "not in the labor force" only increased by 2,518,000 during the entire decade of the 1980s.
You sure can get the numbers to look more "favorable" if you pretend that millions upon millions of American workers simply "don't want a job" any longer. The truth is that if the labor force participation rate was at the same level it was at when Barack Obama was first elected, the official unemployment rate would be well above 10 percent.
But that wouldn't do at all, would it? 7.9 percent sounds so much nicer.
And of course even if you do have a job that does not mean that you are doing okay.
If you can believe it, in America today 41 percent of all workers make $20,000 a year or less.
To me, that is a mind blowing statistic. It would be incredibly challenging for anyone to live on $20,000 a year, much less try to support a family.
If you live in Washington D.C. or New York City and you have a "good job" working for the establishment, you may not realize it, but there are tens of millions of American families that are really hurting out there. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 146 million Americans are either "poor" or "low income" at this point, and most of those people actually do have jobs.
For much more on the "working poor" in the United States, please see my previous article entitled "35 Statistics About The Working Poor In America That Will Blow Your Mind".
If something is not done, the middle class will continue to disappear and poverty in America will continue to explode.
In a previous article, I noted that during Obama's first term, the number of Americans on food stamps increased by an average of about 11,000 per day.
How bad do things have to get before people realize that we are living through a nightmare?
Sadly, most Americans still have faith in the system.
Most Americans are still convinced that our politicians will somehow find a way to turn things around.
Most Americans will gather around their television sets this weekend and watch the Super Bowl and laugh at all the funny commercials without even thinking about how America is literally falling apart all around them.
But there is one group of Americans that is acutely aware of how bad things have really gotten. Small businesses have traditionally been the primary engine of job growth in this country, but right now small business owners all over the nation are facing a tremendous crisis.
Millions of small businesses are on the verge of extinction, and yet our politicians just continue to pile on more taxes, more rules and more regulations.
A recent Gallup poll found that 61 percent of all small business owners in America are "worried about the potential cost of healthcare", and that an astounding 30 percent of all small business owners in America are not hiring and fear that they will go out of business within the next 12 months.
In a previous article entitled "We Are Witnessing The Death Of Small Business In America", I detailed how small businesses in America are being systematically wiped out. Small businesses are dying all around us, and the number of new small businesses continues to decline.
According to economist Tim Kane, the following is how the decline in the number of startup jobs per one thousand Americans breaks down by presidential administration...
Bush Sr.: 11.3
Clinton: 11.2
Bush Jr.: 10.8
Obama: 7.8
Is that a good trend or a bad trend?
All of this is so simple that even the family pet should be able to figure it out, and yet most Americans seem oblivious to all of this. They just keep gobbling up the mainstream media propaganda and they just continue to go out and wildly spend money.
It is almost as if we didn't learn any lessons from 2008.
Even while household spending in Europe has moderated, household spending in the United States continues to soar. Just check out the chart in this article.
And guess what? The infamous "no money down mortgages" are back. If we wait long enough, perhaps "interest only mortgages" will make a comeback as well.
Unfortunately, I am afraid that time is running out. we have been living in the biggest debt bubble in the history of the world, and it is only a matter of time until it bursts.
2008 was just a "hiccup" compared to what is coming.
Our politicians and the Federal Reserve were able to keep the house of cards from completely crashing down back then, but they are not going to be able to avert the economic horror show that is rapidly approaching.
I hope that you are getting prepared. Back in 2008, millions of Americans suddenly lost their jobs, and because many of them did not have any savings, many of them suddenly lost their homes. One of the most important things that you can do to prepare for the coming crisis is to build up an emergency fund. If things suddenly go bad, you don't want to lose your house and everything that you have always worked for.
In addition, anything that you can do to become more self-sufficient and more independent of the system is a good thing, because the system is failing. The years ahead are going to be much more chaotic than what we are experiencing right now, and when the next crisis strikes you will be very thankful for the time and the energy that you put into preparing.
So what are all of you seeing in your own areas?
Are businesses shutting down?
Are people having a hard time finding good jobs?
Since Obama has been re-elected we have lost 4 businesses in my town in all. Carter Lumber as mentioned above, a bargain outlet store something akin to Big Lots called Grandview, Carquest Autoparts and a 2nd hand store I loved to peruse called Re-Use Industries have all closed now.
Add to that I just talked to a plumber who was doing some work at our building and he informed me there business is barely operating and they went from 15 employees last Summer down to three as of November 2012 and he has been told if business don't pick up that he will be laid off at the end of February.
Just talked to a real good friend last night who is a Certified Electrician and System Control Tech (he works on controls and switching for large manufacturing and industrial equipment as well as all levels of electrical work) and he told me he has been given notice that his company is shutting down at the end of February and will hopefully be calling people back in May or June. He said they have never totally shut down before BUT many of their clients are coal mines in and around the Ohio Valley and most of these have cut mining operations down to the nub.
Yet I've heard things are getting better and the economy is fine. Well that may be true outside of Southern Ohio but here its getting worse fast. Crime is climbing at alarming rate. Lots of B&E's and Pillbillies stealing stuff for fast cash. Just had our AC unit vandalized last week. They cut the lines to it thinking they could lift it out of the cage we have around it outside. They were trying to get it while stealing 4 other units in the buildings on either side of us.
One of the places they stole AC units from was a coin shop located right next door. This is the third time he has been robbed of his AC units. The owner is still recovering from the beating he took when some asswipes robbed his store at the end of last year. The guy is 80 years old and they beat him in the head with a crow bar and fractured his skull. They finally caught one of the alleged punks with some of the goods in his government subsidized apartment. He gets his healthcard and food stamps and yes he even had his FREE Obama phone as well, the cops informed me of this when they were down to do the Police Report on our AC unit.
Makes me feel all tingly inside knowing my tax dollars helped to keep an Obamazombie in a nice apartment and kept him fed and in good health so he could devote all his time to beating up 80 plus year old store owners. My Dad is that age and spends his days running our flooring store. He now keeps his shotgun loaded and within arms reach while he is it the store.
But as we say around here now: "That's just business as usual here in the Obamanation!"
A number of the people who do that have under the table income to make it work. If you have a skill you can sell that's usually done by high-priced union labor, you are in better shape.
GM,
Hang tough brother. It’s hard. I worked for a small company of 19 people that was sold just this last year. It’s not pretty out there on the streets and what’s sad is the low information voters believe the lies...
“Anybody who thinks the economy is recovering is a sheltered being.”
Specifically government workers, or those that don’t participant in the economy anyway (permanent underclass).
The printing industry in my area has been hit hard. I was a broker among other services offered, photography, design, mailing, digital, web. Had to shut down in 2008, went to work for a customer.
A printer I’d known and worked with 20 years shut down suddenly late last year, they were hanging on, waiting for better times since 2008. Just couldn’t rationalize keeping the doors open anymore.
Another in southern Virginia I’ve worked with for over a decade, the longtime owner lost his (very nice) house to personal bankruptcy, he’s putting his all into keeping the company going.
Another, who specializes in digital printing, owns his office building outright and is living there to keep himself afloat. Down to one employee, himself. Barely making it.
I don’t see this turning around any time soon. We’re in far worse shape now than we were when this first hit in late 2007 to early 2008.
I worried that I had panicked and overreacted when I shut down and took a job, but in hindsight it’s looking like he who panics first panics best.
“The media has been lying to us about EVERYTHING. I consider the media and the democrats a bigger threat to our country than the terrorists..... at least we can kill the terrorists.”
You’re right; that is why I don’t advocate sending Americans ANYWHERE overseas to combat “evil”. The evil is here, and Obama is doing much more damage than a “nuclear Iran” will ever do. Our way of life has been destroyed over the past four years (not “being destroyed”; it has been destroyed), and I see no way we ever return to an era where people take the slightest responsibility for their actions.
If women and sexual deviants want to fight the Muslims, go for it; I don’t see Muslims as the same threat as the government that is sending the freak show there is. Considering how dangerous Muslims are, that is saying a lot.
“I witnessed a junior 27 year old engineer, several years out of college, who recently bought a house, and a car, who goes skiing once a month, seriously ask his peers, who were 20 years his senior, if monogamy didnt challenge a life in marriage.”
That is part of the post-Christian America; in another ten years he’ll be fighting for the right to pull the plug on those older peers because they cost too much.
The Axis lost WWII; the Nazis won.
“Then I see a cart ahead of me with cart fully loaded with groceries. Then they whip out an EBT card to pay!”
I’ve seen the same thing; they’ll have welfare-bonus children pushing additional carts like draft animals. One of the last things keeping white Americans voting Democrat is the fact that they don’t want blacks to stop aborting their children.
“Crime is climbing at alarming rate. Lots of B&E’s and Pillbillies stealing stuff for fast cash.”
It certainly is climbing along the frontier of the Newark Welfare Reservation here in northern NJ; the raiding parties are getting more brazen as their cities deteriorate even faster (less working people have money to spend subsidizing the zoo). I believe that, more than a larger political vision, is why so many people are buying guns. Here in NJ we’ve laid off thousands of cops (especially in cities, where they were never using their own revenues to pay them); because of the union work rules, the last hired were the first let go, so we now have smaller, older, more expensive cops....
If you’re anywhere near a major through route to and from any sort of urban concentration, a locked cage around the A/C unit or heat pump is a good investment. I know several small landlords who have been hit multiple times, one house hit three times by itself. Always when unoccupied, yep, on a through route. Raiding parties as you said.
Ping for you.
So what are all of you seeing in your own areas?
Business last year(2012)for me was up 64% on the year!
Business compared Jan. 2012 to 2013...still up 25%!
Trying how to hire at least two part-time employees.
Are businesses shutting down?
Short answer is ...yes! Even though my own business growth is great...overall picture is still sour.
Are people having a hard time finding good jobs?
Yes, people are having a hardtime finding good jobs. I have clients that have been looking for over 6 months, some are going back to school for advanced degrees instead. Not sure that is the wisest choice given the outlook, but it is their lives, not mine.
Black market labor and let's not forget dealing drugs. I have been advertising for help for several months. Nature of my business often means I hire temp. help or independents. I have had a number of folks turn down the jobs when they find out our state required I report them as new hires....even as contractors to be filed on 1099's.
Black market labor force is starting to really operate and push back on the economy. While they may not want to give up their benefits to work, they don't want to pay their fair share either if they do take a job.
Where is the author using selective statistics? He has simply looked at the actual numbers that the BLS has published and that are ignored by the main stream media. That is the point of the article"actual unemployment numbers are not being reported". And please save your, economics 101 lessons. Significant unemployment, means lower GDP. One more quarter of lower GDP and we are officially in a recession!
Good article. I try and tell people around me this from time to time and they don’t want to hear it. Actually my area has seen a great influx of new businesses in the last few years. Many new restaurants and retail stores so there’s a decent amount of jobs available here, not the best paying jobs but they are jobs.
>One of the last things keeping white Americans voting Democrat is the fact that they dont want blacks to stop aborting their children.
Are there any numbers on how many of these abortions are performed yearly?
We’re fortunate in that although we are sandwiched between Newark and Jersey City, we have two rivers which serve as moats. They can get in & out, but their escape routes are limited.
Any time people around me see “likely perps”, they just call the police (and the police respond to shoo them away); NJ is so segregated that “likely perps” stand out like sore thumbs.
I don't know that number but I've read that 70% of all Black pregnacies end in abortion.
I saw the same thing yesterday. Several sticks of sausage, four boxes of Velveeta, two bottles of Pace hot sauce, several boxes of wheat thins and some other crackers, five or six cans of salted nuts and out comes the EBT card. Can you say Super Bowl party?
After he swipes the card, the cashier asks the guy "Do you need any extra cash?" Guy gets $40.00 cash to probably buy beer at the liquor store down the street. Just sickening.
