The massacre in Newton, Conn., and other mass shootings have prompted for a call to curb gun violence.
California assembly member Nancy Skinner answered that call with a proposal to restrict ammunition sales in the state.
2,800 people in California were killed last year by gunfire," Skinner said. "It is easier to buy bullets than cough medicine or alcohol. It should not be that easy. We need to have much more scrutiny when it comes to the purchase of guns."
Monday she unveiled Assembly Bill 48. It would require bullet buyers to show identification. It would also require ammunition dealers to be licensed and report all sales to the department of justice.
Emmeryville police chief Ken James supports the tighter restrictions.
Right now you can buy bullets in any store and the sale is not recorded, James said. "Gun violence will continue unless we control the sale of bullets."
Oakland mayor Jean Quan also said she supports the bill and that Oakland has seen too much gun violence and the changes may help...

How many were killed by DUI’s, drug overdoses, etc. in Kaliforniastan last year? Probably many more than gun crimes. How many killed in just regular car crashes not involving DUI, and teen drivers? How many did they kill?
How many were illegal aliens who should have never been here in the first place?
Drunk driving will continue unless we control the sale of cars.
Looks like a real hippie retread.
Great, just what I need, more Californians in front of me in the ammo line at the next gun show! In Tucson last weekend of 42 cars I walked past and noticed the license plates on, 30 were from AZ, 8 were from CA and 4 were snow birds - 2 x SD, 1 x MN and 1 x IL - and they weren’t in the exhibitor’s lot. Something tells me a lot of ammo and 30 round mags made their way up I10 and I8 that night.
Except when Kalifornia screws itself, the Kalifornicators want to move to your state and have you recognize it as marriage.
Or force ammunition makers to run production lines that have microstamping etc in order to sell it within the state.....to the little people of course.
It seems like whatever Kalifornia does, the rest of the libs try to spread it like small pox through an Indian.
In your case, Nancy, #1 would be Stop Exhaling.
Don’t swallow this one, Americans!
“Gee, how MUCH ammo is enough?”
“Gee, which KIND of ammo is ‘just right’?”
“Gee, which CALIBER of ammo is ‘just right’?”
When you have cluster(b)uck politicians and bean counter bureaucrats decide what is ‘right for you’, do the opposite!
My wife and I really would like to move to California next year after I retire. Her sister lives near Sacramento and we found a small community up in the foothills that we really like. I am quite concerned about all the crazy leftist politics and the state’s financial future. Also we would have to get rid of most of our guns, magazines, ammo, reloading equipment and supplies before moving.
There is a process to bring in guns and stuff. That information would be on the California Attorney Generals website. I think it's $19 per handgun, nothing over 10 rounds. Long guns are okay, no fees. You couldn't bring your machine guns into the state.
I wonder if there is a division movement IN california?
a break away/seccession for the state movemement.
If you have ever been convicted OR CHARGED with a DUI, public intoxication, or have driving restrictions THEN you may not own or buy or possess an automobile.
it is for the children.
I know how you feel. I, myself, am planning to move to Cuba after I retire.
That, or North Korea.
The rural hills of Northern California actually have a higher proportion of conservatives than Western Washington where we both have always lived. We are already used to being surrounded by liberals; so it would not be a huge shock to us. Almost none of our firearms are legal down there however.
