We should go to the original definition of assault rifle, The Sturmgewehr 44. It was a selective fire weapon and paved the way for Kalashnikov’s fine tuning in 47. They were automatic weapons as was the M2Carbine. A semi auto is not by any definition an assault weapon. In NYS the definition includes pistol grip, bayonet lug, and folding stock. Any one of those is allowed. TNT Gunnery in Wantagh NY was charged with after market folding stock additions a few months back. The Ruger mini 14 has never been used by any military in the world yet it is now considered an assault rifle as will the ruger .40 cal carbine. The left will stretch the definition to include any weapon that is not bolt or lever action and carries more than five rounds. They will say that’s all any hunter needs. Confiscation is coming.
