Should successful people in Illinois "go Galt"?

Posted by Bruce Donnelly on November 7, 2012 at 11:30pm View Blog

Successful people in Illinois lost the election yesterday. The future looks pretty bleak, not just because several good Republican candidates lost their races, but because virtually unchecked Democratic power was reinforced in Springfield.

A few local wins are small consolation for the continued rise of radical progressives in Washington and Springfield. They now have virtually unchecked power to keep ruining us all economically.

The Republican Party in Illinois has failed miserably - again - and it will cost us all dearly. The Democrats now have a veto-proof majority in both the Illinois House and Senate, as well as the Governor's mansion. Even if Republicans make a few gains in 2014, that won't change the situation. Illinois is effectively a one-party socialist state now. The Republican Party seems to lack any viable plan to become relevant again.

I don't generally like Ayn Rand's philosophy, as detailed in Atlas Shrugged, but it may finally be time for rational leaders to "go Galt" in Illinois.

Let Obama push his “tax the rich” agenda, and let the Dems in Springfield do continued damage, too. Stop hiring. Stop fighting them. Invest elsewhere.

It may be time for a strike by capitalists, rather than unions.

If they want government to run and regulate and redistribute everything more "fairly", let them try to make it work. Stop trying to succeed in spite of them.

Focus on capital preservation and economic growth elsewhere, where business is welcomed, rather than the creation of taxable income and growth in Illinois.

Let the progressives who voted for this big government agenda feel the full adverse consequences of their decision.

I’m unemployed and will be leaving the state as soon as I get the opportunity. For some time, I’ve been doing what I can to starve the beast: I do all the purchasing I can in Indiana. Chicago, the county, and the state have made that not only a choice but sometimes a necessity. The burdensome taxation has destoyed and discouraged a lot of small business and retail in my area, while such businesses thrive in Indiana. There are no gas stations in my neighborhood and none for several miles in Illinois. The first stop in Indiana — a mile away —is a gas station, and there is a steady stream of traffic from Illinois.

The easiest way would be to move to Los Angeles, they just voted to give Illegal Aliens ID to open Bank Accounts and work as well as get needed city services like Welfare and EBT cards., as soon as this program is implemented I plan on Getting my New ID as Jose Smith, open a Bank account and Start paying Jose Smith instead of Paying Myself. And since Jose Smith will not have a SS# he will not be REQUIRED TO FILE OR PAY INCOME TAXES at any Level, especially since Jose Smith is SELF EMPLOYED. I can’t wait. By the way if a few hundred thousand Americam Citizens did this the program will end quickly. So now to my important question, When I do this and a Bank refuses to allow me to open an account, can I SUE THEM INTO OBLIVION for DISCRIMINATION???

Just DO IT! We made it official last year and became residents of Florida. It’s like a dream come true.

Please folks, come to FL and ESPECIALLY the I-4 corridor. Disney is becoming a haven for the leftist voter.

Broward then manufactures as many votes as they need to put Dems over the edge. They had people voting until past one in the am. As many votes as they need are arranged.

I actually lived in Orlando area for 14 years upon a time. My undergrad was at UCF (under-rated school BTW). My family is still down there, so it’s a much better situation for me from that perspective as well.

Indiana's good, but I gotta head home to TN at the 1st opportunity. The state went for Romney 59-39. Still a lot of America there.

If people could just imagine how frustating it is to live in a state where an urban craphole like Chicago overrides the rest of the state polically (I know folks in CA and NY know what it's like).

For the last 15 years I have given up Thanksgiving morning to coordinate the home deliveries to 300-450 people in public housing and Transitional motels in mine and surrounding cities. I really don’t feel motivated to do it anymore. Atlas is shrugging.

Madiganistan was carved up just right by the Rats to undo the 2010 shellacking they got. Dold, however, backstabbed the Tea Party. I believe that is why he was defeated. When the Rats showed ads connecting him to the Tea Party, he countered with ads denying the Tea Party. The ads included his RINO leftist gun grabbing, pro-abortion, amnesty, works well with leftist Rat buddies. RINO Dold got what he deserved.

I was thinking about some charities I have supported the same way this morning. Why should I use my resources to help people who are destroying the nation.

I have already sold my house (for about half of what it was worth), banked the proceeds and moved in with my batchelor son whose business has tanked, so we’re helping each other. I am driving a 10 year old car, but I have a very good mechanic who is my son-in-law. We have an antenna for TV and my son has wi-fi for my computer. I don’t have a land-line phone, either. And I gave up eating out and junk food, and I’m trim and healthy. I’ve gone Galt!

I’ve been hiring a lot of contractors through elance.com rather than hiring Minnesota employees.

I’m planning to do some layoffs when the new health insurance costs come in.

When I hire using Elance again, I’m going to make a point to hire those from red states.

I am getting my usual requests for donations now in the mail. I'm cutting them down to size. I also feel the chill closing about my own heart. Those people in public housing just voted, probably several times apiece, to make you a poor man, so you can give away your time and what money you have left...to them?

Now I don't just passionately resent this administration. I passionately resent every person I meet who has voted for Obama.

Thanks. That was a fantastic article! (Hey folks, back up to that thread and read about the Informal Economy.)

Start patronizing our "flea markets"--look for groceries you can store. Sweet potatoes, apples, winter squash.

We need a whole section on here--"Resisting the Obamaconomy"--

Actually, as an Illinois resident for 3 generations, I don’t see MO or IN as long term alternatives.

As the blue states collapse, so do the red states.

We are currently viewing the US as hostile to us. We are white, considered wealthy by most, and our wealth is being confiscated not only at the state level, but the national level.

The next four years will turn the populace against people like me. America is a hostile environment, and we fear it is going to get worse.

We lost our business in Illinois last year to a union vote (just decided to fold it). Our last kid graduates college in a year. After that, or maybe before that, we will have to expatriate to enjoy the lifestyle that two generations worked for.

We are demonized in our country, and we are tired of being scapegoats. The left hates us because we are white and are successful, and lets face it, just as many people want to write of California or Illinois because there is a small blip of blue in the state, it’s still a majority. This is how we view the US. Texas is no great deal to us, they would hate us there as well because we would just be a “yankee with a u-haul”. Plus, I don’t want to fund every illegal alien to cross the Texas border. Texas loves those illegals too much for us.

We will retire soon, and many places have no cap gains taxes (which will be our primary source of income), but sadly the US is not one of those places. We have been taxed several times on the same income, but instead of a “hey thanks for your contribution” we are vilified by those we help.

As to why some people don’t leave places like this? Metropolitan areas are where some industries live. For some people, if you are in finance, marketing, etc, this is where you must reside to earn your nut, unless you are going to burden yourself with massive travel times and expenses.

Years ago it was fine to hop on a United small plan and fly a few hundred miles. Now the time sink with TSA and the cost makes it very hard to do. I used to know people who lived in IN and WI who flew into Chicago on private planes, but those days are gone. Daley destroyed that airport.

And driving into NY, San Fran, Chicago, or LA is a nightmare. You would have to dedicate half your day to it.

Make your nuts, store them offshore, then get out when things look like they are hostile. They are looking quite hostile at the moment.

As part of our on-going economic strategy to “starve the beast”. We no longer do business in, or with, any of the blue states if at all possible. We will find suppliers and clients in the red states wherever and whenever possible. IF you are a successful blue state business owner, GTFO while you have the chance. This especially applies to gun manufacturers...you should move to an American red-state business climate. Socialism will not help your business. It will tax you to death.
