[from Progressives' Blog] New information casts doubt on Romney’s account of his 1981 arrest

Romney’s arrest came in June 1981 when he proceeded to launch his motorboat at Wayland’s Lake Cochituate only moments after a park police officer had told him not to launch the craft or face a $50 fine

According to Romney’s version of the events, he had taken his family to the lake for a summer outing. As he was about to launch his boat, a park guard informed him that the license number of the boat had been painted over.

Romney said the guard told him not to put the boat in the water or he would be ticketed and fined $50. Frustrated and feeling that the license was still somewhat visible, Romney defied the order, saying it would be worth his while to be fined $50 to enjoy the day on the lake with his family.

“I figured I was at the state park with my kids. My five kids were in the car wondering why we weren’t going out in the boat, so I said I’d launch and pay the fine.”

The charges were later dropped. According to the Globe:

[t]he charges against Romney were dropped several days later and officially dismissed in February 1982 at Natick District Court….

Romney said … the reason the case was dropped was that he had threatened to charge the officer and his agency, then called the Department of Environmental Affairs, with false arrest.

Why did the Globe have to rely on “Romney’s version of the events,” you might ask? Because,

[a]t Romney’s request, the judge also agreed to seal the records, making them unavailable for public inspection…. The district court has refused a Globe request to unseal the files.

This is so insignificant as to be sanctionable by the court.

Does she have a license in that jurisdiction?

If not why is she being allowed to appear pro hac vice?

This is all going to depend on the judge and determining what is the probative value of this information?

Obviously there is no court case so this is just “vexatious litigation.”

I pray the judge direct a complaint against her and any lawyer that agreed to be local counsel.

If Allred is involved, it is some women that is telling her she was wronged by Mitt in some way. And I doubt it has anything to do with the Mitt advised some lady not to have an abortion or do an adoption.

First, why would Mitt, as a church leader be testifying? What kind of case would be in court like that? And why the gag order and sealed records? Those usually happen when there is a civil settlement of some kind. Money is paid and everyone swears to keep quiet.

I may be wrong, but I suspect it is something to do with sexual harassment with Romney or a close family member. Otherwise, I don’t think Allred would be involved. Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t have a good feeling about this.

I guess the Dem operatives have flat given up after looking high and low for a bimbo eruption or love child...what next? Parking tickets? Library fines? Checkmarks on his grade school report cards? Actually, pitiful. HAHAHAHA

LOSERS.

It’s a family court. You don’t have sexual harassment cases tried in family courts.

It’s something extremely trivial or else it would have surfaced way before now.

Tomorrow should be interesting - Donald vs. Gloria.

Does anyone know if Aldred is license in Mass?

Does anyone know, if she is not licensed, who is the local counsel vouching for her? It is required if an out of state attorney is going to handle ONE special case.

I wonder how this judge is going to handle having his court turned into a circus?

For what its worth, the Gloria Allred story was discussed on our morning drive show yesterday. It has to do with some bimbo claiming that Romney bullied her into not having an abortion back when he was a Mormon bishop and she was a congregant.

He might have even threatened her with excommunication if she went through with a convenience abortion.

It is a pretty tough charge to disprove, because if Romney gives his version of the story, then he is guilty of breaching a clergy-congregant confidence he swore to uphold.

Big whoop! Can you imagine the nerve of Nancy Pelosi's Catholic parish priest threatening to excommunicate her if she didn't quit supporting abortion on demand? My reaction would be to shake the hand of the priest.

“Otherwise, I don’t think Allred would be involved. Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t have a good feeling about this.”

We are still waiting for Pelosi’s bombshell. Reid’s, also.

At this point, I think that quite a bit of the electorate is very, very tired of dried-up harridans* like Pelosi and Allred looking for their last day in the sun before their faces finally snap off like balloons stretched on bowling balls.

* I learned this word recently From Dennis Miller on O’Reilly. I looked it up in the dictionary and I almost busted a gut. Pelosi’s picture might as well have been next to the definition.

records can be sealed and expunged upon petition (with few exceptions).

This is a civil infraction. IOW it goes by the rules of criminal procedure.

There is no harassment or other civil or rather real civil issue here. Also if it did settle I doubt ANY testimony other than for plea purposes was done.

This is just Obama pushing a buzzkill.

Aldred should get a bar complaint and the lawyer vouching for her in order for her to appear in mass should be subject to an emergency suspension.

Also in Mass, if not mistaken, attorneys are REQUIRED to have a written retainer agreement. Her clients and their funding is discoverable.

Vigilanteman,

I believe this story and it is consistent with Mitt’s beliefs. But again, what would have brought that to court? This lady did not have to take Romney’s or the church’s advice. Why would she need to go to court and then get records sealed?

Believe me, I hope you are right. Because this will go no where if that’s what it is. But Allred usually has something explosive that can’t be disproved easily.

By the way what is wrong with this site? Very frustrating.

That's what I would like to know. Half the threads I can't even open. When I do, it loads slow, and when I back out it takes me to my home page. Started yesterday.

I know we are all on edge, but none of this makes sense... Romney’s boating incident was in Natick (Middlesex county) and Allred’s rumored to be going to Norfolk (Norfolk county)...and as someone said, it is family court.
