Tonight was the annual Alfred E. Smith Dinner where the candidates take a humorous break from the campaign trail. But I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised at how funny Romney was as he delivered line after line, mostly about the president. In fact he landed some pretty hard blows on the president, namely one where in using the Sesame Street reference he said that President Obamas remarks are brought to you by the letter O and the number 16 Trillion. Ouch! And theres a lot more where that came from.
My bet is that even though it was all in good fun, the left is going to hate it and will try and make something out of it. Maybe theyll put all the jokes the didnt like in a binder or something.

Don’t know if anyone else has said it yet, but it sure seemed like Mitt was channeling Reagan tonight- very charming and right to the point - I loved it!
That is actually a pretty funny line, or it would be if we didn’t know that Obama picked his own name. He was saying that his first name if bad, but his middle name is even worse.
Listened to the whole thing on radio. Romney was amazing. Perfect delivery, excellent material and he knocked it out of the ball park.
I didn’t realize Mitt was this good...I am totally wowed!!
OK.
I still didn’t laugh.
I especially liked the closing and his remarks about the unborn. It was brilliant.
He didn’t hurt himself with this at all.
Thank you for the link
Actually probably the best light I have ever seen Zero in, not that it changes a single fibre of my being, not a bad performance for him not having a Teleprompter
(but Mitt kicked his A$$)
TT
Actually, more like the late Bob Hope. Romney's remarks tonight really reminded me a lot of the best of Hope's monologues from the Bob Hope TV specials.
Wonderful !
thanks
A few thoughts...
Romney IS a smart guy! And this isn’t just seen in his CEO role and investment-pitching/presentation experience, as we have seen in the debates.
Maybe Dennis Miller helped but think about this - there is NO WAY to teach timing and comedic delivery in a week. This IS Romney, just like Reagan WAS Reagan!
And don’t assume the whole speech was written by DMiller or others. I will not be surprised if they did brainstorm some of this together for sure, but I think there is a high liklihood that some of this WAS Romney’s material he came up with himself.
Finally, his gracious close was Impressively Presidential! “There is more to life than politics...” was one of the BEST closes to a speech I have ever heard!!!
He swung for the fence.
He hit it OVER the lights - Not like in “The Natural” - More Like “Superman”...
(...maybe this is a little strong - but maybe not...)
I bet THAT’s gonna leave a mark... :-)

I can't believe I'm the first to say it.
Obama used a variation of that joke 4 years ago. Back then, it was something along the lines of wishing his parents had called him Steve.
From now on, I think we should call him Vanessa.
A lot of pointed jokes too. That had to tick off Obozo.
My favorite was Romney's joke about the clothes that he and his wife wear around the house.
I agree. He was really mad! Once the camera caught him unaware and he was scowling and he saw the moniter and suddenly smiled real big.
YES. This must happen.
This speech by Mitt Romney was terrific!!! Unlike the second POTUS debate, which, by the way, Romney won, even though Candy Crowley, the debate moderator & Obama worked together to restrict and trip Mitt Romney up, Romney this evening was free to deliver his remarks unfettered by the foul means of Crowley & Obama in cohoots!!! A home run....no, a grand slam home run!!! Welcome POTUS Romney!!!
That’s not the first time zero has made a joke about his middle name - it was at the Gridiron or maybe the last Al Smith but I distinctly remember zero commenting that giving him the name Hussein didn’t take into account him being POTUS someday - or words to that effect. Obviously he’s ashamed of it.
When Mitt gave him the stink eye over Libya the other night i wondered if zero ever had a father chastise him for lying - or any strong man who expected - in no uncertain terms - that he be honest.
I suspect zero secretly has a ton of awe for Mitt - who represents everything he cannot be because of his rotten childhood.
Obamas’ best line was when he said Mitt was Romneys’ middle name and he wished he could use his middle name. I thought that was funny.
